Wait... on what are you supposed to spend Tomes of Mythology, then?
Coil is not that hard. If you are worried about not knowing the fight, just go read a guide or watch you tube video. If you fail, at least that grants you a little experience.
Or make your Own Group? Don't include things like Newbies Welcomed, or Only experienced people. Everyone starts out at 0 experience. It is all about how well you can learn the fights and implement what you have learned into actions.
9/10 I make my own groups for things. I don't like standing idle. Even if there is other groups forming that just require my Job, I create my own run. Typically those groups break and join me. LOL
I'm il85 and haven't set foot in Coil. Coil is meant to be the most challenging thing in the game, so I'm saving it for the very last. It's not a race.

My Free Company established a very simple loot rule that, so far, has made loot drama completely absent. I'm actually pretty amazed at how well it's worked with how simple it is... none of that crazy DKP counting and zero-sum systems and nonsense.
The system is very simple: make a spreadsheet in Google Docs and put everyone's name in there. Create columns for each date your FC runs. Every player starts with a "1." Every time they win a piece of loot, their number increments by 1. Lotting priority will go to the person with the lowest number if there's more than one person who wants the drop. If nobody wants the item, it goes to off-specs and their number is not incremented. If nobody wants the item at all, or it's not useful for any main or off-specs, then it goes to freeroll. When the lowest priority score is 11, subtract 10 from all scores to keep the numbers from getting insane over time.
Unity has two Coil groups running simultaneously now and both use this system. It has thus far worked pretty much flawlessly, ensuring that people gear up quickly and that everyone who participates gets a fair shot at loot.
We're working on getting Turn 4 on farm status (we've cleared it once, but the first time is usually a fluke) and I'm sure the system will work well for any FC running Coil if they chose to use it.

That's a uniform distribution policy. It just means that one cannot "need" more total items than anyone else who also needs. It's great for static groups and small FCs, although I'm curious what you do about replacements and cases when you have to pug someone from outside your FC.
The system isn't suitable to large scale raiding (which doesn't exist in FFXIV) where people on a roster are substituted in and out of the raid, because it creates an incentive for people who have high numbers (i.e. looted a lot) to sit out a few raids until others have looted. But for the current FFXIV with effectively only 8-man content perhaps it's the best system.

I would love to do coil more, in fact i once filled in for a tank on my FC, whilst turn 2 took a bit of getting used to the issue i have is time, i really only have weekends to do raids and whilst that's all well and good there aren't many opportunities for me to practice, people say watch video guides and all that but i learn better by doing. Most pugs want experienced people only and i don't want to be a burden to groups that have already got most of the mechanics down. The reasons i want to do it is actually for the plot and experience, loot is more of a bonus i suppose and helps in clearing later turns.

im mostly myth'd myself. but that's because i was strictly a night player and couldnt get in a static for sleeping hours. even if i do play during the day, everyone was looking for experienced only. now with all class 50'd, and with the new PF system, i found a static and currently having a good time.
plus, being myth geared for a fresh coil group is a good thing right?

90% of my gear is Myth and I run Coil successfully every week, guess what? Not all Coil gear is that good. I pass on the vast majority of healer loot from there.

Apparently you (and a whole bunch of people who liked your post) missed the entire point of the post. The point is not that they are in all Myth, the point is that instead of getting sufficiently geared and then attempting coil, it seems they just completely overgeared before they even started attempting coil...which the OP is probably trying to say is surprising.
