Ingame gambling is prohibited in most EU countries, so this would end up stopped by the GM's.

Nice idea though.

If the devs followed every local law banning/restricting/regulating net content in areas they service, we wouldn't even be able to log into the game most days.

If your country has a problem with it, let them try to enforce their laws in the game. I guarantee the only people who will lose out are players from your country. The rest of us are going to keep enjoying our game and our player created content because the community is what makes MMOs fun for most of us in the first place.

If you think for one second SE is going to stop anything (especially when things like this are the reason like 50% of whatever playerbase is left is still playing), you must be out of your mind or really, REALLY high.

Also, good luck with the turnout everyone! I've been running around on Besaid trying to find some fun PCC that's NOT RPing. (Sadly, to no avail. Freaking Besaid...)

Just FYI. They might not enforce it, but that's in the legal side of the user agreement, in other words SE's legal contract between them and you. I am not being a stick in the mud, just saying it doesn't matter how many people you get to shout at me about it, doesn't mean it isn't true.

Be serious, that's just a legal clause they added to the TOS so that if YOU get in trouble in YOUR country for something like online gambling, that THEY (SE) cannot be held legally responsible. It doesn't mean they're going to stop it or do anything about it in game.

And they won't, SE has already stated fairly explicitly their position on player created content, even going so far as to add official support for it in their other MMO (FFXI).

I know you want to keep laughing at it, but the information is there for you to read. You can laugh at anything you don't agree with, but this doesn't mean it isn't correct.

As I said at the start, it sounds like a nice idea, and would be a lot of fun, but don't be surprised if, when something does go wrong, the GM's either step in and hand out smacked bums, or deny any assistance, should, for example, the gil not be distributed as agreed at the start, based on the winning players.

The reason the clause is there, is because online gambling, even for virtual currency, is illegal in countries such as Denmark, Russia, Spain and most of the old Czech republic areas. These countries have quite strict policies on this, and have quite a few times pushed this through a legal process, ending up in the company that provided the vessel for it being either sued or fined.

I personally have no issue with it, it sounds like a good laugh, but I was just trying to point out that should something go wrong, don't be surprised when you are looking at the temp suspension screens.
