Something I would like to see is high level, untradeable crafted gear. While high level sets like Vanya and Darksteel are appreciated, they are necessarily crippled from being the best items due to being buyable (Hence why the highest sets are 70, not 90). SE doesn't want someone to just wrangle up a bunch of gil and buy the best weapons and armor in the game. I've made such an argument in the past, and usually get the response of "If I can't sell it to make money, what's the point?" and "Why should I need to level a crafting job to get the best gear?" Well, the point would be having great gear, and if you don't like to craft there's plenty of other high level gear you can obtain.

We need interaction and people that specialize in certain areas, whether combat or tradeskills, to grow more as a community. Yes and No, the biggest thing I've noticed is that the few people who do make HQ stuff for lower level jobs overprice it to the point of stupidity, its really easy to HQ below lvl 40 recipes and yet people feel they can price these items for 15k+ I dropped half a dozen lvl 25 HQ helms on the board for 3k, and they sell like hotcakes

I leveled culinarian just to be self-sufficient in that regard so I wasn't paying a ton of money for food. It's really hard to make any money with it though after considering the time and effort involved in gathering the ingredients, as that's really the only way you can truly profit.

Crafting is not useless, but it's definitely less profitable than it was in 2.0

I think anyone who crafts for gil is missing the point. You level crafting in order to make your own equipment and supplies. Along the way, you may also pick up a few gil from time to time by selling off your extras, but making money isn't what crafting is for.

I think Urthdigger has a good idea about top level gear that can be crafted by is only wearable by the crafter who can make it. That would be a good way of making crafting more important to the game.

As to the idea of specializing, I'd drop my subscription if they added a rule that in order to continue one class I'd have to abandon others. It's dangerous to change the target audience of a game mid-stream after it's been out for a while, and so far this game is rather heavily targeting completionists who really like the fact that we can pursue anything and everything to its fullest.

I think there needs to be more crafted high-level gear. We have Vanya... and what, one other item? That's it?
Also, we level so fast... why buy or take the time to make mid-level crafted gear?
If crafted gear looked damn awesome, people might collect it... but even if it did, it's not like we have storage space for it.

Unfortunately I agree that crafting atm is pretty pointless now that many people have ranked up so much. Need specialization and crafted items that offer situational benefits. But I will still take it over version 1 which became a crafters game for a long time.

I took Culinarian to 50 because I wanted to make food, because it will ALWAYS be needed, but the profit margin on it is relatively small compared to other crafts, but it's constant.

The main issue with selling crafted goods is undercutting, which goes back to the argument of "if everyone can be everything, what's the point? because you end up with too many crafters all trying to sell the same stuff at the same time, so you have price wars and people undercutting like crazy.

Not much one to simply come around to emphasize another's post but he's got the right of it. Crafting could simply be yet another venue of gear acquisition of the various we already get as long as it WAS possible to have certain untradeable crafted gear.
