After playing monk, I find every other class in the game boring. :P Too bad monk is only fun at 50. :P

I have both to 50 now w/ full darklight + zenith on my Drg and a normal relic on my Monk, and the Monk puts the Drg to shame. The monk is honestly harder to play well than the dragoon, as the rotations are trickier, and there are more buffs/debuffs to juggle. It pays off though in damage. If you like a ton of positional attacks, decent raid utility through mantra when you know a healing heavy portion of a fight is coming, and a more chaotic play style, go Monk. If you want something slightly more relaxed, Drg is an awesome job. The quicker animations on their jumps really did help the class out alot. Both are a ton of fun. Melee in this game requires you to really be on your toes when it comes to positioning just for aoe's... so neither will be a bore. Monk just requires you to plan your positioning ahead that much farther than it does w/ dragoon. Once you get used to full GL stacks though, playing any other class in this game will just feel so slow.
I think I will continue to level them both pretty evenly. I like both but I will admit DRG for me is easier than MNK. MNK I am not sure how the rotation actually goes but it could be because I am only level 26 and could be missing some of the more important abilities. DRG though does have some utility to move out of enemy circles faster with the Elusive Jump skill. Add this with their other Jump skills and they can be masters of getting in and out of bad combat situations. MNK only has the Shoulder Tackle to get into combat but nothing to evade out of combat.
MNK is a sustained dps class and DRG is a burst dps class. That is the main difference between the two. With MNK you will be able to to deal higher damage on bosses and everything that lives long enough, while with DRG you will be able to kill adds quicker and deal a lot of damage in a short amount of time.
Other things worth mentioning are
MNK:
- group AOE heal buff with mantra
- intelligence debuff to reduce magical dmg with dragon kick
DRG:
- high AOE dmg with doom spike
- increases BRD dmg with disembowel
Another thing I noticed as well is the armor difference. While DRG is fairly "tanky" the MNK class is rather squishy if hit.
I have both classes at lvl50 with Zenith's (got it for my Monk most recently), I have to say that it's really a matter of preference. If you plan on end game raiding, MNK seem to have the edge there since their damage output on bosses are really good if you can keep stacks of GL up, plus they have a silence. DRG's are no slouch either, they have more potency on their skills less positional requirements, huge burst which comes in handy soloing, and good AOE damage. Then again, if a Monk has GLx3+BFB+IR, their AOE is just as good for that short amount of time, short being the important word.
It's up to your playstyle, between the two I like my DRG more, simpler rotation, a combo that has no positional requirements big damage is great stuff.
I initially started out wanting to play monk, but was swayed away to play dragoon because people said that monk's rotation was so damn difficult. It seems a lot of people did the same, or they just went dragoon coz it looks pretty. Now I kinda wish I was monk just because there aren't a billion of them. And hell, I"m plenty busy running around as DRG, may as well be MNK and get that extra damage over time. I also REALLY like MNK Crystal Tower gear.
I've been having a real hard time getting DRG drops in Crystal Tower, so I've gotten 2 bard drops, just to get something, and I don't even play bard (yet). Maybe I'll start collecting MNK CT junk next =p I just kinda hate CT coz you have to listen to egomaniac loudmouths half the time. /rant

Well I think i will continue to level both fairly evenly until I figure out which one I like best. Dragoon reminds me a bit of Samurai class from FFXI. Monk is great damage as long as you get rotations right. Dragoon is really hard to screw up on rotation and can dish out some decent damage and take it as well. I just wish Gladiator had a DPS class to go with it.
Dragoon is Ftw. Im really enjoying doing over 1k jump/1.2k full thrusts mnk seems like faster hits = ing out to ab the same dmg now... Cant go wrong with either one.
