Not the Character window. The Character menu. On PC, the main menu is a set of small round buttons, each of which pops up a sub menu with different selections. Character is one of those buttons, and contains the Character window (which is what you're talking about), Companions, Achievements, etc.

Companions is surely somewhere in the PS3's main menu.
