I would pay to play as well. As I said the game isn't bad... it's improving and it needs more work but as long as they keep making it better I am happy.

I also agree with Shadow. It good to listen to the people who play the game because in the end we are the ones who are going to bring them the money, but I think they are listening a bit too much. To be honest I think the people giving their ideas on what the game should be are hurting it more than SE is, and SE is hurting the game by trying to please everyone. I hope they remember at some point that it's impossible to please everyone, and while opinions are good there is a point where they have to say 'we need to do what WE need to do to get this game done', stay on course and finish this game. Poor PS3 people, they need to come join us!

@Thainna: Thank you and +1, I agree with you as well!

If this was the case they would be charging for it now. I'm sure they appreciate you playing the game, and thats great that you enjoy it. But for the majority of the people its boring and not worth the time. Yeah you will be bringing them money, but likely not enough to profit. They need to listen to people who have left and what it would take for them to come back. Because no matter how much the current players say the game is good in its current state and just lacking content, its not going to bring people back. They have a lot of work to do to try to get past the name this game has already made for itself. They already made a huge mistake by making the game so easy and tedious that their core fanbase from ffxi just laughed and walked away.

Well, you can't deny that they're doing their best to fix the game.
Why would listen too much affect badly the game? Because most of the players that left the game (as I can see) were suggesting things that would turn FFXIV into "yet another same-styled MMORPG". And anyway, the Dev team will do what Yoshi-P will judge as good to be implemented, and I don't think that Yoshi-P does want "yet another same-styled MMORPG".

I just... would like to see what is in Yoshi-P's mind, and by doing that, I'm going to be a gamer. I'm gonna wait every single update of this game and when those pop up I will judge its content and talk about it with my gamer friends in a bar. That's how I spread infos.

Of course, I love this game at this state, and can't wait for more! I just want to... have a break from school because I didn't play A game for about a week! (besides Fire Emblem on the bus)

I never said the game is just lacking content, I know the game needs fixes. There are still glitches a bugs that need to be fixed. The battle system needs to be finished. Some sort of transportation needs to be put in place. The leves need to be expanded upon, due to the constant incoming of the same leves over and over etc etc. I am not blind to the problems, and I am not saying that the game is good. I said that it is a good base that I do enjoy but needs improving upon, I am in no way happy as a lamb but I would be willing to pay for it. I see that the improvements are a constant move forward and I would be willing to risk the money per month knowing that this game will probably end up in a good place, just as they did with FFXI when it first came out with its issues. We here in the US didn't get to see that because all of the major stuff was fixed when it hit US shores a year later.

I also said that it is good to listen to the people that are playing this game because they do give them a view they may not see, but SE needs to realize they can not put everyones ideas in and they can not please everyone. At some point they have to just DO something and just get it done.

By the way I did come from FFXI, 6 years... so not everyone laughs and walks away. Some support the game, while letting SE know of issues and trying to help them. I just choose to stay positive opposed to negative while remembering that the game needs fixes and support them along the way. I know some don't have the patience for that, but I do and I am fine with it. To be honest there is no MMO that is out there at the moment, not even FFXI, (since they ruined it and make it all easy mode) that I would rather play at this time.

    But that is my opinion.

Edit: Also... sorry just want to point this out. People who haven't been playing for a long time but want to give ideas how to fix the game... the ideas don't always work because they don't know they state of the game at the present time. I've seen people complain about the battle system then be told 'well thats being fixed now' and they didn't know that. I've seen people say 'MP comes back to slow', well you know there is auto regen for MP now right? I've seen people go 'it costs anima to return after death' You know they fixed that right?

This is why people need to play the game if they want to help fix it... so we don't get 50 posts of stuff that needs fixing just because the person doesn't know whats been fixed. Bless their hearts, I know they want to help... but to help they also need to stay up on top of whats recently happening. Also... all those examples are recent within the last few days... so no I'm not using old examples.

This is why I play... so I do know whats going on. If I have a problem I have the information to say the problem and I don't go over things that have already been fixed, or SE has said they are fixing.

I appreciate it being free to play, but if SE were to start charging tomorrow I would gladly pay.

    +1!

I do not mean to dismiss the point that the are many things that can be improved in the game.
Neither am I dismissing the people who are unhappy with how FF14 is now.

But here on the forums we often hear from people who are disappointed with the game.

The people we mostly don't hear from are the ones who are happily playing the game now.

If SE is listening, then they are getting an imbalanced view of how people feel and what needs to be done.

I hope they realize this fact.

Unfortunately it is a very balanced view, as the people who are unhappy far outnumber the people who are happy. Take the unhappy people that still play out of the game and the game would die. The happy people are not enough to keep this game alive. SE needs to make the unhappy people happy for this game to survive unfortunately.

The Question would be how to make people happy, because people are pissed for opposite reasons.

Half the people are rage quitting because it is not XI, half because it is not WoW.

Some say the game is way to easy with nothing that gives the feeling of accomplishment, some say it is nothing but a horrible grind with to many time sinks and it lack everything that is casual.

SE needs to try to make as many people happy without driving away their fanbase that is still watching/playing the game. The game cannot survive without the fanbase support... its image is too tarnished to attract enough mainstream players now.

Ask anyone who plays mmos but are not playing XIV what are you waiting more for GW2 or the revamped XIV.... I bet 49/50 of those people say GW2. Why would SE design the game for the portion of the fanbase that will just bail... How many tro...Disgruntled players(sorry) keep posting I can't wait for Tera/GW2/ToR to come out. Why should SE make a game for someone who will not stay anyways.

Square cannot afford to lose the FF fanboys, but probably cannot afford to lose all of the mainstream genre players either. But I would say atm the potential subs is much higher in the fanboys category then mainstream... even if mainstream outnumbers the FF fanboys 50 to 1.

In short SE cannot make this FFXI-2 they cannot make this WoW-2.... in both those cases the game will fail. It has to make the existing and lost fanbase happy, and then try to get some of the mainstream.

Yes, you would definitely get that feeling if you judge by the tone of the forums.

I humbly beg to differ based on what I see.
Maybe because I'm naturally chatty or the fact that I speak both English and Japanese, but I have many friends across 3 active Linkshells, plus many non-LS friends who I see and play with for hours every day.

Almost none of them are on the forums -- either English or Japanese.
Instead, many of us are much more active with our Lodestone blogs, sharing our pictures and in-game adventures.

But to your point, I hope SE continues to improve the game and that they are able to turn some of the unhappy players back into happy ones.

Like others have already said, that is ultimately what we all want -- to have fun playing this game.

Wait wait, stop please...FFXIV had about 600K preorders, based on that alone you would infer that more people hate the game than those who like it. If SE is building a game ground up again, they want to target the people that left, not the people that stuck around because quite clearly the people that stuck around are easier to please considering they pushed through the agonizing first few months of the game. And even if the people who stayed just up and left because of changes the game sees, it would hardly harm the game any more than its already harmed, considering SE is probably aiming at 500K to 1000K player base as opposed to the handful that play today.
