There is a lot I miss about XI, but this new generation of gamers outnumbers us with the old-school mentality, so the chances of that style of game ever making a come-back disguised as a pretty new next-gen MMO is very very unlikely![]()

FFXI was awesome and so was 1.0 screw this WoW clone BS, I'm tired of WoW players wrecking our Final Fantasy MMO
TO the OP, look your fighting a battle that we are unfortunately out numbered by now, I made a topic in the beta phases with the exact same title that hit massive numbers and reached the front page but the problem here is the real fans have mostly been pushed away or ignored and SE's loyalty has been migrated towards new fans who enjoy bad titles like FF13 and now this extreamly tamed FF14...
It's a huge shame they didn't just add more to 1.0 and improve on that model it had alot more potential than ARR, it's an even bigger shame they didn't just revamp FFXI.
There interest was money and they succeeded in that, so bravo to them but unfortunately what we are left with is no longer a Final Fantasy MMO in forms of it's over all game play depth and what we are left with is a WoW clone with the Final Fantasy name slabbed onto it. The new gen don't know the difference so to them it's like the best thing in the world but to others like myself who have been around since the very start of FFMMO-Game play this... this is a huge disappointment and continues to be.
I deeply miss having a true Final Fantasy MMO game to play, ARR has lost all the amazing things Final Fantasy had to offer us. Mostly I feel sorry for new comers who will never get to experience the real adventure of Final Fantasy.

So...1.0 being awesome is why it tanked, right?
I actually don't like FFXIII. Never had any desire to play it. But I do like FFXIV. The way it is.TO the OP, look your fighting a battle that we are unfortunately out numbered by now, I made a topic in the beta phases with the exact same title that hit massive numbers and reached the front page but the problem here is the real fans have mostly been pushed away or ignored and SE's loyalty has been migrated towards new fans who enjoy bad titles like FF13 and now this extreamly tamed FF14...
You can still play FFXI. I mean, if you think it's that much better. Nothing's stopping you. It's a huge shame they didn't just add more to 1.0 and improve on that model it had alot more potential than ARR, it's an even bigger shame they didn't just revamp FFXI.
They didn't just "add more to 1.0" because the game completely tanked. Whereas FFXIV has actually put SE in the black.
Can't imagine why that might be.
------------
So all the people currently playing the game are just...crazy? Stupid? Not as cool as you?
well, it would seem that "gamers like you" are outnumbered by gamers like me. I very much like FFXIV the way it is - it's refreshing. I enjoy playing it the way it is. I never once felt even the remotest desire to play FFXI, and I would quit this game if it became an XI clone.Gamers like me who played and enjoyed both FFXI and FFXIV 1.0 played them and loved them because they had something different to offer us than other games, now that Final Fantasy ARR doesn't really offer much different to other MMO's it's kind of lost a huge chunk of it's over all potential.

I said revamp FFXI, FFXI as old as it is now with as little updates it gets is a waste of time, the game has been put in there corner and is collecting dust, one day they will simply pull the plug on XI completely.
Instead of choosing to remake XI there best ever money maker they decided to make FF14 which failed then remade FF14 which is for the record just full of shiny stuff to make people feel good but thats about it, the actual game itself is kind of lame compared to it's ancestors.
The reason people liked and played Final Fantasy as an MMO and not just as a console game was because Final Fantasy as an MMO was created completely different to other MMO's from the inside out, the fact that it's become just another generic same old same old MMO has taken away most of it's potential as an original franchise.
Gamers like me who played and enjoyed both FFXI and FFXIV 1.0 played them and loved them because they had something different to offer us than other games, now that Final Fantasy ARR doesn't really offer much different to other MMO's it's kind of lost a huge chunk of it's over all potential.

FFXI had some really good aspects to it for its time and is still running some of those could be put in with upgrades to those mechinic to fit ffxiv. The new mmo standard in my opinion is what helping to kill the mmo genre slowly.
Yeah every company is making them all the same way now, there isn't enough diversity in them. HOLLY CRAP I miss the open world in 1.0, NM's, Crafting had more purpose and so did gil, group partying instead of shitty fate system.
1.0 and FFXI had something massive in common, a sense of adventure. In FFXIV ARR I feel 0.. ZERO! sense of adventure, it bores me to death at times.
It's become what I hate more than anything in MMO's, Do your daylies, spam the same dungeons, no real need to travel anywhere, hell I don't even think you can discover new places because I had been everywhere this game has to offer me in terms of exploration in one day.. One day is all it took, not even so much as a cave to explore here and there, the world isn't even a quarter of the size of what 1.0 was and 1.0 wasn't even a quarter of the size of FFXI.
FFXIV-ARR is basically this, your a gold fish in a fish bowl and you swim around the same circle on a daily basis a few germs might be in that same path you go every day but there the same germs every day and if you gather enough fish food on a daily basis you'll get fat and strong by the end of the month.
Here guys read what this guy has to say, you might learn something.

These new game mechanics are horrible, I feel sorry for you all and I couldn't be more disappointed in SE for changing there mechanics to be structured like everyone else instead of holding there ground and being the franchise that they are.

While I completely agree with the OP and would love to see more developers create games for those interested in a deeper, more involved experience, 14 is not it, nor will it ever be. Yoshi was pretty transparent when he came on board that he was intending to make a very surface level, super simple, no regret, candy coated Final Fantasy game with the intensions of emulating just about as much as he could from WoW and other successful MMOs as possible. That did not include incorporating anything really from the Final Fantasy games aside from the names and lore. It is what it is. This is Eorzea Canday Land and we just have to deal with it or go to other games.

Sorry...I don't miss the FXI grinding for hours and hours on the same looking mobs (for a few measly level ups) while asshats would purposely train an entire zone's worth of mobs on to my group. NMs were boring zerg fests (much like FATES for Odin/Behemoth).
I like Realm Reborn. It isn't perfect but no game can be perfect. I'd like to see more caves and stuff, more dungeons, crafted items to be worth obtaining rather than novelty, etc.
