Horrible, Sudden and Weird PS3 Lag

I've been having extreme lag issues on my PS3, since the 2.1 patch.. Not exactly the way you describe, but still bad enough to make the game mostly unplayable.

I've double and triple checked my router and port settings, and done speed tests to places all around the country. My connection is rock solid, and I only have issues with FF14. It seems like the game servers are dropping incoming packets.

Mostly things animate normally, but the actions don't end up going through to the server. Casts do no damage.. Movement doesn't actually happen, but I can see everything everyone else is doing normally. Sometimes after seconds, other times after a minute or more it will resolve and I'll get a stream of unable to complete action messages as the server finally starts processing things again, but most of the actions aren't valid anymore. If this happen during a dialog it can take half a minute or more to finally quit the dialog.. If it happens and I skip a cutscene I'm immobilized until things correct. Can't get on or off a chocobo or make any other state change that requires server acceptance.

The server only actually drops the connection maybe 1-5% of the time.. The rest of the time, I'm just stuck watching and being useless.

I'd hoped it had been fixed in the patch last night, since early this morning things seemed a bit better.. But the server may have just been having less issues from a lower than normal load.

I like the game, but as it is its unplayable.. I've already canceled my auto-renewal, and if it isn't fixed soon I'll be asking for a refund of my last month.

Seems there are quite a bit of network problems for some players. Like you said, we know it's not our connection so is there any hope of getting a fix, or at least a response, from SE? C'mon Square, the game was great, 2.1 has been a blast, but now these weird "lag spikes" are ruining the game for a lot of players. I really hope we can expect a reply.

I have a newer slim PS3 and I have the exact same issues that Zhorangi is describing. My downloading never gets interrupted, and on my screen I can see people in the opne world running about or in dungeons doing their thing and they never "jump" or "hesitate" which are indicators of lag from the server down to me. This lag only exists on uploading info to the server from my PS3. When I am in a dungeon, I'll be in a fight and on myscreen, I'm maneuvering, fighting, just like normal. But on the screens of my party, I'm way back in the dungeon just standing still in a hallway. Finally after what could be 30 secs-upwards of 2 min, I'll sync up with the server and "warp" to where I am on my screen. My party mates see me way back there in 1 second, and the next I'll be right next to them.

This upload lag has shown up for me in gathering too, when I'm doing leves. I'll get to a node, start farming and every now and then I'll just lock up for 1-2 min. Eventually, the server will recognize my command, execute it, and my gathering attempt will take place. Not just gathering attempts either, but I can get this delay with any gathering skill I use (leaf turn, etc...)

This has made the game pretty much unplayable for me as well, as no one wants to go into a dungeon with a laggy DPS. I am also thinking about cancelling my auto-renew if this can't get figured out. I love this game, but only when it works.
