While I'm not exactly a fan of fates, I wouldn't point to GW2's dynamic events as anything to aspire to...
What they described them as being before release? By all means, shoot for that; it'd be awesome if you can pull it off (or even come close).
    What they delivered? No...

While it is annoying that seasonal events are relegated to 'Turn in this item', fates as a whole are at least a more superficial affair than GW2's dynamic events... That would be a negative, except that events that aren't done well yet feel like a major focus end up pulling me away from the game more than those which are just 'there'. More simply, if you're going to do dynamic content make it forgettable or make it good; don't make it memorable for all the wrong reasons.

i just hate the fact that i cant gift the ice or w/e items i can get in the current event fate.. or is there anyway to do so? >,< fate's respawn 50min-1hr and cycles it's actually a waste of time waiting for it to respawn in 1 area try the other 5, and i also hate the fact that sometimes i wait for 50min+ for an uber easy fate which will last for 2-3min and sadly sometimes you get there ... its over =))

    No Fates for anything

    Fates are bad in general

Not for Quest, Main story, pre-reqs, Exp, etc etc

I hate Fates please let this trend die

It's the downtime of staring at your map for 30 minutes to an hour that frustrates players.
Event FATEs would be extremely tolerable if they occurred at set times. For example, if I knew the Christmas Event in Central Thanalan always activated at 1:15, 2:15, 3:15, etc, at least I could arrive for the event and not have to wait for it to show up. Also raises chances that other people might be there to do it with me.

Fully agree with OP. Total lack of developers's imagination just astounding

Yeah, while I appreciate the seasonal events in-game, I'm REALLY tired of FATEs. Give us more quest-lines, even if they're silly like the Halloween one.

I actually enjoyed the Christmas FATE, it had a bit of a twist, sure it was simple but it was nice having to do stuff besides punch my controller & I loved how the Treeant was covered in Christmas lights
i wouldn't mind more FATEs if they're not all spank and tank

What I'd REALLY like though, is more mini-games and content that actually makes people cooperate with eachother.

FATEs are just a lazy cop-out indeed. However, I can tolerate them to a certain extent. Having to do the CT intro quests and the Hildibrand ones is easy. You do 'em one time and move on.

What I utterly loathe with an unspeakable passion is being forced to repeat FATEs that take anywhere from 30min-1hr to spawn. It's the worst idea ever. Half tempted to kill every Sylph in the world every time they give me Magitek Menace. SEEETHE.

The FFXIII FATEs sucked too. There was no reason you couldn't have made them more interesting temporary guildhests that allow you to actually see your favorite FFXIII heroine in action. A zerg fest that lasts all of 3 seconds? Yeah, that's terrible. Stop using FATE for everything.

I admit. I would like more stuff similar to the Halloween event, but with some of the elements of the Main Quests and Class Quests. Instanced Solo environments (Go to place X and activate event object Y to go to solo instance), Event Dungeons/Guildhests/Whatevs, and stuff of that nature might be very helpful!

I wouldn't call FATEs lazy cop-outs, though. They allow for a lot of people to gather in one place, making that FATE feel like a literal battlefield that makes the player feel like they're a part of something much much greater than themselves. This proves very effective for the extremely elusive Odin and Behemoth to the point where there's an entire Linkshell on Balmung with agents keeping their eyes and ears out for Odin and Behemoth sightings. In fact, I hope they use FATEs for Gilgamesh in 2.2 as well, even though I know that doing so will make his Genji gear much harder to get in general. Just so long as the FATE is not directly tied to any quest progression, that is.

For Odin and Behemoth, I would love a more formal "Alert" system, where anyone that say... achieves First Lieutenant or Captain in their Grand Company (not currently available) gets a very special Grand Company Linkshell that enables alerts to when powerful enemies reveal themselves in Eorzea so that Eorzea remains a safe haven. This would alert to Odin sightings in Black Shroud, Behemoth sightings in Coerthas, maybe Gilgamesh sightings in Thanalan, Event Boss sightings, etc. Then, just for an added boost, have these FATEs yield a Company Seal bonus comparative to the rarity and difficulty of said FATE? I think that would make the FATEs much more engaging! A lot of folks don't want to bother with Odin and Behemoth either because their gear isn't the best once you start running Level 50 content and getting gear that way, or because it's such a hassle to track them down.

    In short:

Standalone FATEs with a means of turning in rewards (i.e. Odin and Behemoth) - Fantastic idea!
FATEs tied directly into quest progression (i.e. Hildibrand, Crystal Tower, Tribal Dailies) - Not very appealing...
