I love Duty Commendations. Thank you for them.

I ran Haukke and Copperbell HM last night on my Monk, informed them i was on my first run through them, and ended up with 3 Commendations out of 2 Dungeons.

So, in short, No, DPS will not get the shaft. Be nice, do your job, carry the run. People will thank you for it.

Thank you to the DPS debunking this myth that DD don't get commendations. I run on my bard mostly and about 45/52 commendations are from that role. It's not as bad as people think. If you're not getting commendations, it MIGHT be you. It could be myriad other reasons too, like partial premade group, people not seeing the notice, or leaving too fast.

Unfortunately, damage-dealers get the shaft when it comes to commendations. Everyone wants to reward the tanks and healers. As a healer, I tend to send one to that awesome DPS that carried the group pretty hard and did their job appropriately. There's always the doofus DPS who decides to pop-cooldowns early and threat is ape-shit crazy, resulting in them NOT getting my vote.

Seriously, reward your DPS once in a while. I feel bad for them. I heal all the time and get commendations for it, and so does your tank with his insta-queue.

It's kinda true, but I feel I should mention: I've only played DPS in the Duty Roulette thus far, and received a handful of commendations.

It seems to be that I tend to be talkative, give really quick rundowns of boss fights prior to engagement, or will give some sort of feedback if I notice someone needs help (usually like, a tank not actually sure how to do their thing, or melee DPS not knowing flank/rear attacks).

I dunno. I figure I'll just stay in the habit of that and see how it goes, but I think a lot more people are conscientious about who actually talks in random parties (and how useful what they say is) than we may assume.

I just got heaps for doing low level Guildhests (Stupid 50 quest and putting them off catching up to me) wearing the snowman head, gloves and bra.
My mom always gets them for healing. I think she got 15 over the last day.

I try to avoid giving it to tank/healers a lot (sorry) unless they've done a really good job of it. DPS are always gonna fall short since our contribution isn't as obvious. That said, I have received a lot of commendations recently ever since I started leveling Archer, so I must be doing something right...

I do also give to tank/healers, of course, especially if they're a newbie healer/tank and they've done a good job of it. If the healer has gotten us all through a near-death situation, they'll get a commendation. If the tank numbers targets, make sure everyone keeps up, goes at everyones pace, they'll get a commendation. Of course, these are just examples. It's a case-to-case thing. But in short, I try to give them out as much as I can!

Yesterday I think I gave one to a newbie healer, a MNK who was getting mobs down like no tomorrow, and a very chatty tank who made the run fun

Read again. Thank you to the DPS debunking this myth means literally thank you to those people who are actively showing that this complaint is not valid from our experience. It does not mean thank you to the two people who posted on here thus debunking the 10 posts stating the contrary.

My general rule so far while leveling BLM is, if the tank or healer was outstanding for some reason or another, I choose them. Like, a tank marking and not waking stuff up that I slept. Or a healer managing mana well in sticky situations. Otherwise, so long as the other DPS isn't rude or a complete derp, I give them one. Also if someone is new and says so, and someone takes the time to explain to them calmly and correctly, about what to do, I will give them one.

I get rewarded on my Dragoon for talking strats with newbies, being friendly and helpful during the run. Having open communication with people, and doing a good job at my role.

I Give them out based on who was the best experience or best improvement/cooperation in a run. Class doesn't matter for me so much as what they do in the context of their duty.

I've noticed that it is mainly tanks and healers who get the commendations, for this reason I tend to award on contribution rather than job.
