truth, people tend to use "grinding" as a bad word these days when in actuality thats all that MMOs and rpgs are. What people don't understand grinding can be anything it doesn't matter what you do, if you feel bored after a while it is a grind. As much fun as campaign was in XI getting that gear for my pld FELT like a grind even tho it was fun. I loved to party in XI so don't hate on the people who love the party and grind mobs cause it basically the same thing when you do a dungeon over and over for xp.
No matter what the content is your gonna be killing mobs for xp anyway.
I agree, or they have this anti-farm policy in place where mobs take super long to respawn at all. All this works against setting up a nice grind camp.I enjoy the option of grinding and believe it or not people do it in xiv. The difference is that its much more difficult to find an area for your range with enough monsters, and almost always these areas cant support more than 1 party because of the fast pace of the battle system.
You spend twice as much time running from monster to monster than you do in the 10 or 15 second fights to kill them. Lets hope the battle system adjustments bring about fixes to this.
fter that, a system for forming parties that is easier and more used would create the enviroment where grinds could work alongside leves.
I also prefer grindparties over leves. Really hoping the comm. reps read this thread and take it up with SE.
Anyone who stuck around to play FF11 wants FF11-2, that makes sense because those players obviously loved ff11. I believe that square intended to create broader subscription base with ff14 than ff11 so they intended to create less of a grindfest.
The main problem with grindfests is they force you to trade your life for the game. for some people thats ok, but for most people striving to make something out of their lives, thats impossible. I played FF11 but could not fit the 4+ hours per session needed to play it.
I think whether the new operaters turn FF14 into a grindfest or "FF11-2" will be determind by who the target auidence for the newly announced MMO is.
Something tells me that they orginally intended for the upcoming MMO to be a new home for the old FFXI players since FF14 was not. Then agian who knows where they go at this point.

I'd be totally okay with the new MMO being "FFXI-2". Only thing that bothers me is that they already used the same races/themes as XI in XIV. I'd really like FFXI-2 to take place in Vana'diel but hell I'd take an Ivalice Online or something completely new.Anyone who stuck around to play FF11 wants FF11-2, that makes sense because those player obviously loved ff11. I don't know what I want really. I liked FF11 party system and party grinding much more than FF14 party grinding but this may change after auto-attack and job roles etc. I do enjoy the leve system for some quick SP but we shouldn't have to rely completely on that for good SP. So I'll just wait and see how 1.18 plays out and see what I prefer after that.
After playing several MMOs, I actually do know what I want.
I want the same sense of accomplishment that I had in FFXI, with the kinds of modern features you get in WoW. Solo and party play are both supported. In a PVE-centric game with an amazing story, great quests, cutscenes, lands to explore, instanced dungeons, challenging crafting and goals. With a PC-style interface.
Oh, and I want it to be fun. Hope that's not too much to ask.
Oddly, if Aion hadn't been a PvP-focused game run by the moronic NCSoft, it would have come damned close.

I think you have to first answer, What is the point of levelling up?
Obviously it's a form of progression, and a way to help the players learn how to play the game step by step. So, the earlygame-mid game content should reflect what happens at endgame.
If end game is Killing Monsters, then ranks 1-49 should be all about teaching you how to kill monsters.
If end game is all about doing quests and collecting objects, then rank 1-49 should reflect that.
In FFXIV Endgame is appearing to be Dungeons, Boss Battles and Notorious Monster hunting.
So, it would make sense to add r25-35 NM and a Rank 30 Dungeon.
FFXIV was suposed to target a different player than FFXI , u dont need 2 FFXI , u need a game that support the FFXI player and a new type of player , but in the middle of the road SE lost the north and mixed ....now u have a casual game with a hardcore grindfest .....
The 1 char / all classes idea is good , but u need to support it.......in FFXI there are partys to lvl up....
in FFXIV leves, since questing to max level is out of question , other than making everyquest from 1-Max level repeateable if u are another classs.....(and thats a mess) , o making hubs with 24h repeatable quests ....so u can level other classes...
So grinding is the most easy to implement......no need to add content , just change some mobs here and there
Everything said can still be considered grinding doesn't matter doing the same quest every 24 hr's is grinding too!FFXIV was suposed to target a different player than FFXI , u dont need 2 FFXI , u need a game that support the FFXI player and a new type of player , but in the middle of the road SE lost the north and mixed ....now u have a casual game with a hardcore grindfest .....
