An Open Letter to Yoshida-san: Please Slice One Zero Off the Housing Prices

Last night, I patched and fired up my EverQuest 2 account...and promptly walked through my house that I obtained simply for completing a quest in the beginning levels of the game.

After that, I patched and fired up my Star Wars: The Old Republic account...and promptly walked through my startship, which I obtained after gaining level 16 and completing a quest.

And after that, I hopped over to the WildStar web site and read up on the extensive functionality of player housing in the game.

Finally, I logged into Final Fantasy 14 and ran to the FC Housing neighborhoods just to check them out. I ran through the areas, marvelled at how beautiful the landscape was.
I then read the placards and the pricing. 8million....20million..100million. I came to realize that not a single lot had a house in it.

I shed a single tear for the villanous rampage SE took to a staple of MMO's.

I'm trying to find an ounce of logic for prices aside a possible average for all on a group of servers and all the players, effectively equating to a spread of the few tumultuously wealthy players/guilds on servers and the rest of population, and I only take partial stock in the possibility of an attempt to "catch more RMT" or something similar.

If so, with the massive detriment prices look to have going forward, I then question the mentality of devs for the matter and on the matter.

There's also the line from a previous Live Letter making mention how (paraphrasing) "saving up should be enable a small house."

Comments from Yoshisan include preferring choices be permanent like in real life, while still having choices.

Let that simmer for a moment, in an MMO.

It's as though between the proverbial rock and hard place: a stellar experience with phenomenal comrades and exhilarating game play from genius and genuinely intuitive intellect for immersion --- and budget hardware (apparent from many issues on technical side, SE-side positional lag, etc.) and policies that seem similar to business tactics used in Japan today at large utilizing the controlled hype of product for longevitous means to an end, and a general attitude of promoting in earnest those who excel while forsaking all others.

It seems personally a rife air favoring elitism and concrete dedication that bypasses much of the reality we occupy is very much present, but I could be wrong, but would verily appreciate Yoshisan's sentiment on this ordeal rather than ignoring it in public forum like as thus.

I can understand the pricing and the reasons for it. Personally I wasn't really expecting to get a FC house anyways. I'm far more interested in the personal housing and like many others in this thread are glad that the pricing for personal houses will be more affordable. I look forward to crafting furniture for my house and decorating it. Looking forward to that update for sure.

Just going to say this. How the holy hells even when I hit 50 on any class or all classes afford a house plot unless I've been playing for x amount of years afford this? No one can afford a 8 billion gil plot unless they are CONSTANTLY making money off their professions. Its nice to look at, there are no houses as far as I've looked, it made me a bit disappointed that I may never afford a house in the future. Where a poor player kicks dirt and never gets anywhere. Thanks SE for making Gil sellers profit more just for someone to afford a house, then get banned because they were tempted to buy gil from a gil farmer. It's a Vicious Circle lol.

Not like I actually buy gil. Im too broke. I bought crysta just to afford an extra month of XIV...

They should just make the plots free and then thats problem solved then no one is paying more or less and everyone paying for the game can have access to it.

Same, wasn't expecting to get an actual FC housing. Because... well they are for FCs. I can only think of the arguments brewing about the interior decorating between FC members, so it kind of puts me off. HOWEVER, I do look forward to personal housing, and I'm glad it will be way less expensive.

They said FC housing was going to be far less expensive as well. Good luck with that. When all that gil is still in circulation in 3 months when they supposedly release personal housing (because no one can afford an FC house, even in 3 months it'll be a stretch) do you truly think they'll not apply similar logic? I'm sure it'll be less expensive!! Instead of 20mil for the cheapest/smallest *land plot* on my server, they'll prob start it at 10mil instead. Much more affordable! Please look forward to it.

Don't worry though, I'm sure in 3 months of saving you'll be able to afford that as well. I wouldn't save up now, as more gil in your bank means they'll jack up prices for your personal house starting price as well. Good luck!

I think the scheme is fine. SE is doing fine IMO, and im glad i have something to strive for for a few months instead of being handed everything and then choosing to quit out of boredom.

Of course it's fine in your opinion, you are on one of the cheaper servers. Please, please, at least TRY to see it from the point of view of someone on the more expensive and most expensive servers. This is NOT attainable unless they drastically change the prices in 3 months.

Reposting my earlier comparison to try to elicit some empathy:

What if you chose a Legacy server because your friends were there. But due to the Legacy server having a higher population that already had relics, they decided to slow down this progression for everyone. Now, instead of going through the same amount of effort to get a relic as other servers, because you're on Legacy and other players already have them, you have to win Chimera 10 times instead of 1. You also have to beat each hard primal 10 times as opposed to 1. You have to get the base weapon and meld it 10 times instead of just 1.

But, that's not fair!!! Oh, but you see, there are so many people that already have relics, even some players that have a relic for every job, so you see, we needed to limit the number of people that got relics. So sorry, these requirements will ease up in the next 3-6 months. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the content!

In this game everything is pretty well accessible to even the casual players. So why all of a sudden do they come out with these insane plot prices that no one can even afford. No one even wants to buy right now. It's infuriating, I don't understand what they are trying to do by keeping housing off limits for most Free Companies.
