There is honestly nothing to spend gil on because all the decent gear is purchased off currency you farm from duties so how do people not save their gil? Like what are they spending their gil on these days? If you reuse your old gear from level 1-50, why do you still need to spend your gil? How are you not without gil? Just wondering. I'm guessing food?

in my case.. i play about one week on and one off, exc for few hours here and there..
i dont buy food bc im a CUL, i tele only to favs and home and try to ride from there. Rarely actually tele otherwise (i confessed close to end game, got inpatient bc REALLY wanted to reach endgame, so spend more than i should have)
my repair is not even than much bc im a WTM..

so honestly i think is the amount of time we can spend.. i have close to 400k, 4 others in my FC around the same. others have few k..

This is why keeping legacy characters was a bad idea. A couple of people sitting on hundreds of millions of gil and screwing with the housing prices. 4 mil for the cheapest plot on new servers, up to 40 mil for the cheapest plot on legacy servers. That disparity is ridiculous.

This is very confusing to me. It may have to do with server econ scaling but I have been playing the game literally for one week and I have made at least 40-50k gil easily. How can a veteran player only have roughly 6 times as much gil as me?

Teleports, repairs, food items, crafting materials, better equipment, decent materia, helping out others in the FC with their stuff. It all adds up. The markets are pretty borked on Balmung. I'm sure if I started off 2.0 with high level crafting and gathering, I'd probably have made a lot more gil, or if I just gathered all the materials myself, etc. But given that I have a limited amount of time to be on, if I want to be even remotely close to the rest of the FC, activity wise, sometimes shortcuts are needed. And the depressed Market Ward doesn't help much.

Is it really hard to make that money back? 5000 gil is a lot? I'm truely curious. Because its takes about 15 minutes to make that back in my experience.

Okat so 15 mins for 5k gil. Now you need to make about 100k a day to stay on track for your house in a few months. So now you have 20k and hour times 5 hours. There you go, set aside your first 5 hours of play EVERY day for you and everyone in your FC because they will gladly give you 5 hours of grinding each day and hand the gil straight over to you each day so that in a few months you can all enjoy a small house. Incidentally, have you seen what the small house looks like, so worth the second full time job for you and every member of your FC...so worth it.

Honestly while I appreciate Yoshi responding to this and I think they are taking a step in the right direction its not a big enough step. World group 3 pricing is a heck of alot better than current pricing for Balmung but its still nowhere near something that anyone I know can afford. Even my full FC all together would be scraping the bottom of the barrel to get 5mil gil. Honestly I would love to see their statistics to figure out how they possibly came up with such a crazy number. Drop it by another 30-60mil on top of that for large housing and we're looking more reasonable.

you do know that legacy server houses and non-legacy server houses are not the same and do not effect each other. Nothing that happens on a-legacy server will ever effect a non legacy server. There are no legacy characters on non-legacy servers.

I am on a legacy server, I started the FFXIV on its original beta and launch. No, I am not a legacy character because I refused to pay for a game I wouldn't be playing at the time the game was getting fixed, plus I found fun things to do instead of playing a game that would be overhalled in a years time. No, I don't have this magical legacy gil amount (last time I checked I had under 200k). However, I do not find it hard to make gil back from repairs and teleporting (omg crafting). Imagine that.

crafting and selling the items I crafted, harvesting is also pretty easy.

well.. you make a lot of money in starting the hame, and no really need to spend much. i made around 70k on my story. but going up after that, and doing what the preview person reply to you.. well, is ... no too easy after, actually imo is HARD.. my FC have easily close to 2m.. which i though was going to be the highest price for small, and then maybe 5-10m for medium.. but 30m!!!!
and lets face it the small house seems like their design for personal house... :P

If you are leveling a crafting and gathering job then you are going the right direction. Just use it to make gil.
