Except the loss of MND when choosing Vanya over anything i90 makes it subpar even with the loss in crit.

That's the whole point of critical hit builds. Losing 6 mind is not a big deal at all especially when you have 11 determination points making up for it.

All expert SCHs I know use it and it was named BiS by many sources. If you're talking non-crit build, thats another story.

Nope, because the Argute Mortarboard gives 15 determination. So you're trading 6 mind, 6 vitality and 4 determination for 16 crit, which is about 1% crit, and 15 spell speed, which is about 0.01 second off the GCD.

That 1% crit chance can save a tank's life. Can 6 mind save anyone's life? I don't think so. That's what SCH is about. We rely on shielding and critical hits give double the bonus on shields. On the other hand, WHM is straight up about "big numbers" in heals so mind stat comes first for them. There's a reason why SCHs are looked at as tank healers. It's all because of shielding and critical hits compliment that more than anything else.

Also don't forget, these critical chances also apply to your pet. When you're basically managing two healers at once, crit build is more rewarding. You can even try both an ilvl90 piece and vanya hat melded. Cast healing spells on yourself and the difference isn't that noticeable at all in non-crit hits.
