The essence of Archers and Bards

I understand where the FFXIV dev team is coming from when they make range damage weaker as they are further from their target.

But I feel like Archers and Bards will lose one of their main qualities this way, maybe it will make sense for mages by saying "mages are able to focus with the image of their target, the closer they are"

But whenever you play an Archer in any game, if the damage is not the same, it would be higher the further you are, especially in my favourite game Final Fantasy Tactics, it make sense since you are added speed to your arrow the further you are, but you are risking accuracy instead.

I want to ask if the FFXIV Dev team can find another way to balance damage in PvP instead of what they did.

If you seriously think that projectile speed increases with distance, you really should say no to drugs. Just saying...

Yeah...projectiles slow down as they travel, so causing less damage over range makes sense...accuracy over increased range is also reduced, thanks to variables such as wind speed and the target having more time to dodge (especially 'slower' projectiles like arrows) but I don't think you want to have to stand just outside melee range to keep your accuracy stat as low as you can keep it, do you? Also, in general, moving while firing causes accuracy to take a fall too...

I'm pretty sure when you're getting hit by an arrow it doesn't make much difference if the person who fired it at you stood 2 or 20 metres away, it's still going to hurt.
Especially if you take an arrow in the knee.

Pretty sure this change is just for PVP, in which case it's perfectly warranted. Archers, as they are in PVE, would be completely broken in PVP.

Pretty sure I don't care about range debuff. I'll shoot you in the face point-blank. >

If the bow was fired at it's target in a parabolic arc into the air and then down on it's target it could conceivably deal higher damage the further it travels, taking advantage of the acceleration due to gravity, especially if you start on higher ground then your target as in a castle wall shooting down onto siege forces. This is less viable given the game design/archer's shooting style in this game. However, over the range in which we are firing these arrows the loss in speed is negligible to affect the damage, but seeing accuracy drop given distance would make much more sense.

All this talk of real world physics is sort of hilarious considering how FFXIV Bards have functioned.
