I like how the misguided minority keeps throwing buzzwords like spoonfeeding thinking they mean anything and keep ignoring and plugging their ears about the fact that no one ever expected to be handed down things. I mean aside from the fact that the game was (re)designed from the ground up to hand out a lot of stuff for minimal stress free effort, everyone expected to pay a lot for housing, that's undeniable. What no one was expecting was 25 million for the smallest plot of land in some servers or to be advertised and introduced to a feature that most can't enjoy or even participate in until pretty much the next patch in March at its earliest. They're also so misguided they think farming gil is content or an acceptable long time goal, I mean sure if I'm not a crafter then saving up for an HQ Vanya is an acceptable goal, especially now that most people having full Darklight so they can spend their philosophy on crafting mats, RMT and this announcement pretty much crashed the markets.
Starting the game and playing through all the content is also an acceptable goal, putting the admittedly really easy effort of beating the storyline to start doing endgame dungeons to gear up all the way to reach Coil and also beat it, that's a great goal that also no one ever expects to get handed out. Saving up 25 million, or if you're really committed, 312 million? Sure it's a long time goal but a really badly planned one and a horrible artificial way of extending a feature and forcing people to keep paying a subscription.
The mindless defensiveness needs to be toned down, but thankfully it's already so minor it doesn't matter.

Yea as a Vet, with a new system (and a FF11 Vet) I enjoyed my mog house.. it didn't cost me a darn thing too. But seeing if i want a large house for all my friends we got to amass like 50x the money. They put to large of a hit on the older servers with pricing, the new servers and mid servers are ok but... for a small group of friends that cant even afford a small for a LONG time is kinda bull crap :P
I am getting really, REALLY tired of people saying that we all wanted the largest house right out of the gate.
I'm also getting tired of people saying that the small houses are affordable.
Check the prices on Durandal and come back and say the same thing.
Everyone thought paid retainers and fantasia would be the end of it.
You were warned.
Cash shop in, TrystWildkey out.
Why did you play FFXI so long (to call yourself a vet ??????) if you found it so horrible?!Umm... FFXI vet here as well.. and you know what.. screw you and the high horse you think you rode in on!
FFXI was one of the worse MMO's I've ever played. Yes, it was also my first, but I stand by what I said. Being forced to group grind after level 9?! Everything, even the simplest crafted item costing so much that it would take almost a year to grind out the gil for it?
Seriously, what are you on, because if its good enough to make you that cracked, I clearly need it!
There is a little Monkey in all of us....
Wrong. You missed the live chat before the patch went live didn't you? He said the reason the prices are so high is because he didn't want a situation in which all the houses would be sold out with nothing left for anyone to buy. They are not implementing that system!
Everyone "caught." Not everyone who buys RMT gets caught. Proof? There'd be no market for RMT and they wouldn't make the business they do if that's the case. Many people slip away unnoticed.
I'd like to say that, the housing is not user friendly. It has nothing to do with casuals or hardcore players as all it requires is time. Eventually anyone can make enough money to own a house. This is mathematically possible. Turn 5 however. Not for the faint of heart. It requires quick reaction time and a experience in gameplay mechanics. It's not about being a white knight or a dark knight or whatever words you kids are using now a day. The simple fact is that promises were made, and promises were broken. SE has a talent for this sort of thing.
So you think that the feature most likely to be attractive to casual players is where they should draw the hardcore line in the sand?
Casuals in this game = subs = subsidizing the development of content for hardcore players. You eliminate the casuals, you eliminate the people buying the crafting stuff you put on the markets and the people paying most of the bills for the game. Can it survive only on the hardcore subs? Perhaps -- but with lower profit, it will be less of a priority for future development and content generation will move even more slowly.
This victory you are claiming? It is like winning a "who can punch himself in the face hardest" contest. Well done.
To add to this...I believe they said Personal Housing will come depending on how stressful company housing is on servers. Something like, if it's too much, then they're only going to stick with Company Housing and Personal Housing will not be implemented. That was during a recent Live Letter. I believe Live Letter X...
