I agree that a lot of what's in the game is almost unbearably repetitive or misfitting, but out of the game's 72 tracks only about 10 or 15 are heard often enough to sound repetitive. The rest are either unimplemented, in places with little/no content (coughcoughCoerthas), or play during the incredibly sparse main-quest cutscenes. There are several tracks on the OST that I actually listen to very often, but that are not in places you go often in the game...like many other things in FFXIV, the tracks that Uematsu made were badly implemented.

This one is really inspirational http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hfpoa...eature=related
This one is classic FF http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syZXx...eature=related
It has a LOT of interesting fight music that we dont get to hear often. This one reminds me of FF6 boss fights for some reason http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6YzZ...eature=related
This is my favorite personal song, its soft and amazing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1fu8...eature=related
This one is just interesting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBWrC...eature=related
This is another classic sounding one, reminds me of the crystal rooms in old games http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXYlF...eature=related
There are plenty of other good ones we just don't get to hear them often enough, or hear some of them too often hehe
I love good music but I'm abstaining from listening to these tracks until I hear them in game. I really burned out the Nier soundtrack and now hearing it in game doesn't do as much for me.
i keep my music in game completely turned off. i turn it on if i am in glory fighting ureaus or in brittle fighting dodore. other than those 2 situations i feel listening to my footsteps running or the noise of crafting much better to listen to.

As freakin EPIC as this soundtrack is I just wish the actual leves were as Epic, like some truly menacing boss at the end of it. In one of them I remember having to kill like 20 rats and a mi'qote I honestly felt like just running off to listen to the music because I was enjoying it more than the actual leve.Epic Faction NM Music
Put some Van Halen or Satriani music in the game then maybe i would turn the sound on. FF14 music is almost as bad as my mobile phone's ring tones.
The music in this gmae is great. But it is unfitting, and badly used. And since Uematsu normally is the king of making fitting music I can only imagine it has to do with bad direction (like, here is a list of songs we need, get to work, with no more interaction than that). Most of the tracks is just way to epic for the game. That song you posted that sounded like an ending boss theme (with the chanting) - coerthas guildleve music? Really?
