^ This. The tiny playerbase that's still holding on with tenacity are the FFXI vets. Many people gave this game a chance because they didn't want to play FFXI (or, obviously, they would be playing FFXI). But they have since left. If you want to bring those people back, you have to offer them something different.
I had a love affair with FFXI for four years, but I'm no longer playing that game for a reason. It's time to look ahead to the future.

New setting and story but pretty much yes to the OP.
Heresay and made up facts do not make for good arguments. Prove that all the playerbase that is left are the FFXI vets.
Well, you found me out! Congratulations! You must be a real mastermind.
Hmm that would be pretty hard to prove unless you actually know everyone that plays personally from ffxi. However besides a few people here and there(no specific number to give) most will claim they have played ffxi for years. I wouldn't say only ones left are vets(because i know some new guys) but we do make up a good number.Heresay and made up facts do not make for good arguments. That's actually some what possible, if you want to gauge sample data.Hmm that would be pretty hard to prove unless you actually know everyone that plays personally from ffxi. FF11 people come in directly are named "ffxiv name". This is from the migration program that gave a kick back for FF11 subscribers.
All someone would have to do is search for ffxiv on a sample server, and check their last log ins. If any of those are more the 10 days less the current, you'll have your answer.
Again, even if SE takes out the world population feature, we know FF14 is on a steady decline. Anyone who wants it to be something different is likely the people who are dooming FF14 in a sense, since FF11's population is bigger and more stable...and they pay.
"Good Number" is a vague statement. 60 is a good number. So is 6000. There are many good numbers in my books. And my point was that it was something impossible to prove. Your play experience is limited to only what you've experienced in game, and does not encompas all experiences of all players. Therefore, you cannot know for sure how many are new, and how many are FFXI vets.
Anyways, it is only natural the FFXI vets would be the ones still playing. If WoW had a sequel, who do you think would make up the majority of the playerbase? Naturally it would be those that played WoW for years. There would be newcomers, just as there is in FFXIV, but the old hardcore fans are more likely to stick around.
The number of vets likely outweigh the newcomers, but there are still a "good number" of newcomers around.
90% of the lost subscriber base was expecting FFXI-2!
Prove it...
