Ya i play ffxi for 6years each city hate each other but still work with each other and that why they made up the PVP thing for each zone. Maybe SE can do something like that for FFXIV later and maybe work it in the storyline.Well the cities in FFXI never actually hated each other, but they were their own independent country. Also, each city had it's own set of races that primarily lived there.
Windurst - Mithra and Taru
Sandy - Elvaan
Bastok - Hume and Galka
I get that the devs were trying to create a sense of unity in it all, but in video games it's actually more fun to have a bit of competition between the nations. Especially when there's 3 powerhouses like Sandy, Bastok, and Windy. I doubt at this point they'll rework it to be like that, but that's how FFXI worked.
Now, I think with the introduction of the Grand Companies they could REALLY pull some new stuff here. It's adding a completely new layer of lore on top of the game. They could implement a system where the 3 Grand Companies are competing to be the best and be marked down in history as those who saved Eorzea, so you gain CP (Company Points) whenever you kill a monster that gives XP or even more points if you kill a Garlean Soldier. And then from there you could receive rewards for your war efforts.
