i was hoping they named extreme ifrit quest "ooooh laaaaawd jesus is a fire!"
HeavensWard theme song lyrics:
-"We can [Stance]dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don't [Stance]dance
And if they don't [Stance]dance
Well they're no friends of mine"
Good puns are a valuable commodity and even fairly serious game use them, so it's not like anybody is ever turning down great puns for no reason. So the good stuff, if they exist, is no different than what any other game would already attempt to do.
A game is the sum of its parts. If the music of FF14 was worse than what it is now, you'd probably still play the game, but it wouldn't be as enjoyable. Likewise, although quest names are a very minor part of the game, they're what you see first so they do make an impression. If a quest name made you think 'wow that's dumb', that's still worse than a generic quest name like "Titan (Hard mode)", which you'll almost certainly be indifferent to.
It seems to me whoever did the localization figured since he can't actually make great puns, he'd go for quantity and hope he'll accidentally stumble something that's the equivalent of "FOR GREAT JUSTICE", but I'd argue he missed on all his attempts.
Do you know how hard it is to come up with good puns?
Anyone can come up with bad puns, but it's hard to come up with really good ones.
You're really crying over this? Does it affect you? Wow... that's sad man."Quake Me Up Before You O'Ghomoro". Really?
I mean, don't get me wrong, I love me some wordplay. And I can appreciate pop culture references as much as the next guy, but when every single fate or quest is some 3/10 quip it feels forced and lame, like the laugh track in a multi-cam sitcom.
Maybe I'm some kind of sociopath but bad puns don't tend to keep me awake at night. Good ones make me laugh though so bring them on!
I hope this was intentionnal, otherwise ... /facepalmdo a 360 and walk away.
