Personally, I like having one of each in my party, they tend to balance out well. I also personally prefer have the whm on tanks and scholar on raid heals, but that's also individual preference. I do think there needs to be some changes (give scholar the damn real protect) but otherwise don't really see much difference between the two. But to the person who was talking about PVP, summoners and scholars have the most chances of being OP in PVP. They can neuter heals with Miasma/Miasma II, Summoner can kite and kill with pets, or in the case of ranged dps, dots and heal self. Should you focus on pets, that frees up both classes to cast spells, rejuvenating parties or damaging you with dots which again lead to more kiting with both classes.
Well, I read through this thread hoping to get some information about both healing jobs. It started out nice. Sadly there is this one SCH trying to force his/her opinion. I love the "I've done this, so go away" argument, which isn't an argument. 12 y/o probably..
It seems like WHM and SCH is the way to go. I guess I then lvl a SCH since the healer in our static mains WHM. I just love how the book looks! Only concern is if it's too pet-dependent. I want to do all on myself if possible.![]()
I wouldn't say it's pet dependent, but Eos and Selene are a great help when it comes to healing as they're usually capable of keeping the DPS members alive by themselves. Even more so if you use Rouse on them.
Like the poster above me, I agree that it isn't a fully pet dependent job. The fairies can help you get your raw heals up to a cure 2 level if you macro-ed them together (which I plan to do come 2.1 :P) but physick + adlo does the job well enough on it's own. I know a lot of people say that we HAVE TO micro manage our pets but I'm up to coil turn 2 now and I haven't been in a situation yet where not micro-ing Eos has killed the raid. I agree that the AI is pretty retarded at times but smart placement of your pet can mitigate a lot of stray heals. I personally like letting her do whatever she wants because it means I don't have to worry about healing my DPS too much.
The only drawback is the spamming of CDs at absolute retarded times but unless you're someone who has to get max output out of your job at all times, it's not really an issue. I just let her spam them and not worry about it too much. Maybe that mindset of mine will change once 2.1 comes and I can macro her CDs to steady.
I agree, both jobs definitely have their advantages and disadvantages but if I had to choose one, I'll go with whm. Regardless, as long as the player is competent, both healers are more than viable for ALL content. That's right, ALL. White Mage or Scholar? Just give me a damn healer man, who cares.
The problem lies with current mechanics, though.
The fact that tanks can get crit and basically one shot makes mitigation and Adlo shields VERY powerful. Not to mention a SCH can Adlo AND Stoneskin which leaves WHM only with Stoneskin as mitigation.
Of course on the other hand you can argue that proper Protect is worth it, too![]()
