I just want to say I wish more people had your attitude of being ready to learn instead of continuing to struggle and point the finger elsewhere. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.
Read through the thread quickly and I'm not sure this was stressed:
Being a new player gets you a lot of flack when running with pick-up groups in just about every MMO. Being a tank puts you front and center, and you'll probably hear a lot of crap. It's not a very pleasant state of affairs, but it is what it is. Just be aware you're going to be getting all sorts of blame even if it's not your fault the group isn't working (and all sorts of blame even when it's working). It can sometimes take a bit more experience to see what's actually the problem in a less successful group, and being new, you might think what people are saying is true.
Simply put, don't take too much crap to heart, and remember that as long as you're willing to learn, you're well off.
Keep it up!

Just wait if you get a group that ends up just leaving you after a few wipes (happened at cutter's cry for me
I switched to blm from PLD when i got to Brayflox and from a dps standpoint it was easy.
Marking targets greatly helps and i suggest to ask your group if you have a blm if they can sleep adds.
Basically tank in my group would mark targets so i would sleep second and third target and then burn away first and repeat, etc.
The second boss can also be put to sleep so when a add comes in and chases Brayflox the main boss can be put to sleep.
Final boss is all about positioning and moving boss out of goo. I did actually do Hauuke manor one time and another player actually waited in the dungeon at the end and was offering me great advise, there are some nice players out there and others well not so much. Tanks and healers always pretty much get blamed if the group fails. You will for sure get better in time and i wish you all the best of luck
Papa, I had the same issue as you. As a tank, I got chewed up by other players at Brayflox. Big eye opener to MMOs. I quickly read up on tanking. This link was especially helpful:
http://www.xivnation.com/guides/part...nks-tanks-dds/
Also, must use FLASH. I use Shield lob to pull, then flash 2-3 times to start and once after every attack combo. I also zoom out my view to pay more attention to surrounding.
Best of luck.

First of all emnity is the responsibility of the entire party in FFXIV. If you have players coming from other games they are probably not used to this and assume it's always bad tanking. This attitude stats to shift in later levels.
Ask trigger happy dps and healers to let you get a hit in before they go all out. Healers who start curing as soon as you lose 100 HP will get emnity no matter what you do. Make sure you move so all the mobs are in front of you. Getting hit from behind or the sides will greatly increase the damage you take and cause healer aggro. Keep your wrath stacks up to help the healer heal you. Mark targets and ask dps to stay on your target. Ask a mage in your party (white or black) to sleep mobs. Watch the party HP to see if anyone is getting hit.
I see you are level 40 now. Click off regen before you pull. A new white mage will not know regen at your pull will aggro every mob to them no matter what. Ask them not to cast it until after you pull.

I guess I did not, before reading the linked-pages above, and hearing all of your words, realize that the tank needs to be more assertive and make some thing clear on the front-end.
I probably should have known this, but did not. I never thought the game would take into account front vs side and back for damage-taken. Noted.
I apologize for the possibly dumb question, but when you say regen, do you mean I should fire off my Thrill of Battle so they know they do not need to heal me as much?
No, Regen is a skill that Conjurers / White Mages have that can heal you over time (HoT), a new inexperienced White Mage may put this on the tank before the tank pulls and steal aggro due to the heals, you should see this as a buff which you can right click to cancel before a pull (dont remove protect and stoneskin by accident tho).
