This is a good list:
16 dungeons (3 more coming)
5 turns of Coil (CT coming)
3 hard mode primals (1 more coming + extreme modes)
Leves
Guildhests
FATEs (nobody wants to do these though)
Crafting
Chimera/Hydra
Finish quests if you haven't
Level other classes (Can be for subskills or to play)
But let's look at it closely. If we were not obsessed with gear:
19 Dungeons, we would do it maybe 5 times for fun.
5 Turns of coil, we would it again, maybe 5 times?
So far that's 100 'runs'. If we would do at least 3 runs a day (which is easy), we would be able to consume this content in one month.
Would anyone here repeat these more often if there was no reward? Very few would do it more than 5 times. So we need a 'reward'. What could the reward possibly be? Tomes. So in the end, repeating the dungeons is a tome-grind, but we get to choose 'how' (or where) we grind it. But the point is: We are repeating content not for the fun of the content itself, but only to get tomes to get equipment.
Leves/GuildHests -- We could easily do each leve and guildhest on the first time we go from 1-50. There is no real incentive to repeat them (they are not 'fun' to repeat, we do them for the reward. Once I've escorted someone, I'm not going to think: Yaay, I can escort him again!).
Fate - I'm not sure anyone does a fate for anything other than the reward (XP/Drop)
And this is where our problem is: Yes, there is a lot of content. Yes, there is a lot of ways to get a reward. But the end result is that the content that exists is the MEANS to an END which is the reward of equipment.
The content itself, without a reward of equipment, is not fun or engaging enough for us to desire to repeat over and over. Proof: How many people repeat WP/AK/etc. when already capped?
We need content that is FUN to do, over and over, in many different and interesting ways, that is so enjoyable that we care not for what reward is given.
To take an example from other games: People play Street Fighter, or Soul Edge, not because every time they win they get a power-up to use the next time. They repeat it many times because the mere act of playing it, is fun enough.
This is what I want as my reward. Not equipment, not a fancier stick. But game mechanics that are so enticing and enjoyable that I will go forth and seek out adventure for adventure's sake alone.
