Are you referring to yourself when you mention hardcore player? lmao if the answer is yesMeh, not a lot of content for hardcore players. Lackluster PvP and extreme primals that you'll only do once to get your i90 wep and then never do it again, similar to relic quest.
This isn't going to keep me subbed for 6 months. 'Cause i'm really not looking forward to grinding CT and Coil for the next 6 months and I don't think anybody else here is either. Unless the PvP is like the best thing ever made or something, but i'm really doubting it with that fresh meat stuff...
But yeah, this update is for the casual players mostly. Disappointing.
I had such a nerdgasm.....
Sorry for those Coil grinding gear addicts who feel left out of this update. People have to remember that SE isn't just catering to us existing customers but to entice new ones in and to provide them with a more well rounded experience. Yeah it's unfortunate for those doing Coil that CT gear is lower level but it doesn't suck for the new guy/gal who starts playing the game today, tomorrow or next week.
Fortunately I'm in Eorzea to be part of the world itself and to enjoy exploring all that it offers, so this patch is full of win for me. Looking forward to expanding my shop to cover housing items in particular and doing the beastmen quests and new story quests. I think it's a great patch and I'm very happy with what it brings to the FFXIV package as a whole.

I'm here for the housing patch, treasure hunting, king moogle, and more crafting items.
They need to have like 2 ppl make a team to pump out an OST.
I definitely understand your point
In the past I have been in a very serious FFXI endgame LS (2003-2009) and I can understand your frustration at the current path of MMOs. You can imagine how annoyed I was having leveled summoner in the good old days over 1 year to have them introduce level sync ! (still grinds my gears)
However, the MMO world is changing, Like the real world you have to network and expand to progress. you cant keep yourselves locked in a bubble anymore and unfortunately that's just the way things are.
I have made very good bonds with people in this game not because I am forced to play with them under fear of being kicked from my FC/Static/LS but because I helped them when there was little or no benefit for me.
I think you may have the wrong perspective on the game, it is not about individual progression at all thats just the view of a minority or the "old guard" who cant adapt to the new way of thinking.
In this game "accessibility" is King. IF people want to come online form a 4 man team with a few friends or complete strangers they should be able to do so and they should be able to challenge any content in the game designed fro 4 people.
The days of needing a group website and running a group like a well oiled machine with schedules are largely gone. While I miss them I do not wish for them to return.
The issue is that large teams are not really needed in this game for content nor will they be with the current direction. you only need a max of 8 people and tbh those 8 people can simply be in a static group or LS. I will hope that future changes to CT will not change this, but I cannot see them making it as difficult as a coil run.
It is people with the old guard mentality such as yours (and my old concepts) that are holding the genre back.
An MMO is not a job and should not feel like one at any point it is simply a game for people who enjoy playing with others around the world.

I don't think your apology was terribly sincere..../hehSorry for those Coil grinding gear addicts who feel left out of this update. Honestly, that is a great mentality to have in MMO's, just not near it's release...Drastic different mentalities is the core issue.
In XI is was exactly the same way. An endgame shell (guild) what ever you want to call it focused on doing almost everything in house. It was all about bringing together everyone to do things that you could not do alone. I was about improving efficiency and working together. Guild > The individual. That was the key to keeping XI alive for so long, it was the bonds formed in that game. Was the same in old EQ, Lineage, and Old WoW to an extent honestly.
XIV is tearing guilds apart left or right. The content is centered around individual progression not guild. You are forced to split up groups of friends due to forced lowman in everything, the lockouts are just another punch to the gut of someone trying to run something formal instead of a free for all random event.
I do not play for only fun. I play for my guild, I play for the friendships I made over the past 10yrs within my guild. It is why I put in dozens of hours a week outside the game doing things with my website and various other projects for my guild. This is NOT just a game, MMOs are suppost to go much further than that. Call of Duty, Pokemon, LoL are just games... a mmo is suppose to be much more. Sadly now it is not.
My FC will not allow people to do things outside FC... at least main events. Because we want to grow ourselves, we want to work together to advance, we want to strengthen the bonds that kept this guild together for now almost 10yrs. A Guild is not a social chat channel, it never will be.
Anyone whose been through multiple launches will know that it's generally possible to reach the end within the first 2 months of an MMO release as an experienced player (not your first MMO). For those with that ideal, once they reach the end it's like watching a deer in headlights. They all just become lost for looking towards something to do.
You should think about adapting your mentality towards changing things up (just swap everyone job to something new for example) for the sake of a new experience. Create your own challenges within your FC (Best Speed run times tends to be a common one) and you might find that this patch is adding far more then you thought previously.
If you really want to stick with that philosophy of only working towards growth and development, then I'd recommend to play MMO's that already have the ground works laid out. Something that's been out for 2 years would work best for this, especially if they are releasing expansion packs full of content.
Always remember the Silver Rule:
"Treat others as they treat you!" ...or something like that.
