I know you wish it was 1997 again. But I bet it wouldn't be as wonderful as you think it'd be.
How is it not a direct sequel? It's the same world, with the same characters, and it occurs chronologically after the events of the first game and Advent Children (which, though not a game, is also a direct sequel). Also, the events of the game are directly related to events that occurred in said first game and movie.
The point is, SE has milked FF7 considerably more than any other game in the series.

*weeps*EA? Activision? Sony? Microsoft? Perfect World? oh gods please no!
all of those companies pretty much destroy everything they touch or absorb them destroying anything they don't deem worth anything.
and before any of you try to say not sony. I bet most of you don't remember Psygnosis
if anyone buys SE I hope its a company that actually cares about the games they make. if Sony bought em I suspect we would only see the FF series survive that buyout
Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool is the reason for my username on the forums (and just about everywhere else). It's a shame, I even keep in touch with 2 of the original team through deviantART.
I like how you picked a point that was almost inconsequential to my original post to go on and on about. It was really supposed to be more humorous than anything else.. but hey pick away! What ever rocks your interweb jollies. How is it not a direct sequel? SE makes REALLY bad FF titles all the time with no help from other game companies. Yet, you want to debate about the technicality of an ff7 sequel already existing. My point was that SE tends to make crappy decisions and it already hurts the ff pedigree.
Continue on looking for small points in peoples post to debate about! You will go far!
The rest of your post wasn't worth responding to, as it's the same garbage that I've read hundreds of times before on this forum.I like how you picked a point that was almost inconsequential to my original post to go on and on about. This entire thread, in fact, is a giant waste of SE's bandwidth and should be deleted. I'm only here 'cause I need something to keep me occupied for the next hour.
So crystal chronicles, the game where you needed a GBA just to play with friends, and chocobo dungeons were awesome games?
So, the only garbage worth responding to is a point that you feel like you can win on? You avoid the rest of the post, just want to nail a person on something that is by opinion wrong? You expend the effort to actually respond just to prove a point about something that means almost nothing to the idea in the post?
Lawl, life fulfillment at it's finest.

I never played Chocobo's Dungeon. But I do know it was a PS1 game made several years before the merger that supposedly is the root of the FF series's decline.
But I had a blast with Crystal Chronicles. I'm sorry you couldn't afford to buy a GBA back then.
I don't know if this was pointed out, but I am just gonna go ahead and put this here. A not so long, long time ago we had this and some of the greatest games (I guess arguably) were released by two very interesting companies.

Also, if you still own any of your old copies and you play them and watch the initial credits, guess what. Square EA. Just sayin.
