Not sure anyone actually read the solution? I should clarify. You would still have the option to use the buff - only if you use the buff and equipment above the initial item-level cap you don't get the achievement / award item.Here is my solution:
Allow players to play old outdated challenges with the original level cap / item-level cap the challenge had upon its initial release. Award unique achievement items for players able to complete these challenges (players who completed these challenges upon their initial release would obviously also receive these awards without any additional action on their part). I think something like this would go a far way in pleasing both casual and hardcore players.
