But that's exactly what it was.
Hardest boss of 1.0, in fact. Started the fight with a 7000 damage megaflare on entire party.

Hope you're still saving those over-aspected crystals to mitigate megaflare. Not that would matters, fight mechanic would be greatly differs anyway. lol
But yeah, that fight was fun. My only regret not finishing it since there's still so much to do and no time left back then. ^^;

I'm wondering if the current Bahamut(who is in pieces) is simply an outershell. Perhaps Bahamut himself is much smaller than the current thing we're seeing. But his essense is trapped/held within the supposed heart of Bahamut. I'm leaning towards the Allags seeking to create an ultimate weapon(not the actual ultimate weapon from the garleans).
Perhaps some ancient war happened between the Allags and the Ascians. And when the Allags got their hands on the heart of Sabik (found to be used as "Ultimate Weapon's" core), they decide to replicate such technology but on a larger scale. Managing to trap Bahamut's primal essence inside of it. And create a much larger shell to place the "heart" of bahamut in it. While adding all the necessary allagan constraint devices. Which could explain parts of bahamut looking metally and those spikes in his head. Which on its turn could explain why his supposed body is still intact without fading back into the aether.
My reason for coming to such a conclusion, is that this method also allows for an actual Bahamut fight. Without having the game set the giant trapped one free. Which can never happen, because then we couldn't technically re-enter the binding coil. Basically we'll get to fight the real and smaller size Bahamut in a way that we either enter the heart and fight him in there. Or that he manages to escape from the heart.
tl;dr
Elder Primal Bahamut is trapped inside the heart. Encased by a much larger Cyborg Bahamut shell. Because Japan loves his Giant Robo mecha fights. XD

I still have a couple stacks of Cluster. lol.. There is nothing to regret in not finishing it. I kind of regret wasting my Time on it for my Earring, which is now totally trash.Hope you're still saving those over-aspected crystals to mitigate megaflare. I do believe that Bahamut's current state in 2.0 is a type of aether imprisonment keeping him from being neither completely revived or defeated. Both figures seen at the end of the final cutscene almost seem to be keeping watch over Bahamut... either way, my theory is that the Ascians know much more about the primal's condition than anyone else and may be planning to exploit the technology under Eorzea somehow. The Ultima Weapon was augmented by ancient technology that Lahabrea knew how to manipulate.... Bahamut's 'heart' is probably of similar origin.

My guess is that somewhere deep down there we'll face Omega Weapon since Ultima Weapon was also made from Allagan technology just now with Bahamut powering its core.
I'm actually expecting Omega Weapon to be the Final boss for a Future Storyline rather than a Binding Coil boss since Nero is still alive.
