But but but this doesn't have MY character in it! The story is only important if it's about me.

Won't mention names because that's spoiler territory, but...

Personally I don't think they are alive, if anything they'll be similar to 'force ghosts', remnants that retain form and thought in order to guide and help out those that will come after them.

The main reason I think this is that they have yet to speak, neither of them in the course of turn 1-5 say a single word to any character but themselves before they're seen walking away and presumably further into the binding Coil.

Though, with that said, what interests me much more is the big reveal after turn 5, it's pretty interesting that the Allagans had dragon controlling technology and that Bahamut appears to have some Allagan gear of his own. (Not a spoiler as you can see the gear in question when he makes his reveal, it's the giant horn things on the sides of his head.) Raises some interesting questions about what the Allagans may have been doing before they sealed him away in Dalamud, food for thought.

ya the things learned from Binding Coil story really does bring in more questions but it does help prepare for the upcoming storyline in the first expansion for FF14ARR being Isghard as Yoshi-P mentioned. Now that we have some story plot for involving Dragons the storyline for Isghard may be more interesting than I thought if SE doesn't mess up the storyline for that.

Though I wonder why would Nael be with him but it would be interesting if they have Nael as a Boss in the later parts of Binding Coil.

I agree that I don't think it's really them, something definitely seems off (aside from the fact they're supposed to be enemies).
Regarding Bahamut and the Allagans, I'd like to throw this theory out there:
The Allagans were obviously all about controlling/harnessing the power of the Primals, Ultima Weapon proves this. Perhaps the experiments on Twintania with the dragons were tests to see if they could control Primals, dragons being the closest relatives to Bahamut. Through their experiment, they succeeded in controlling dragons and decided to move to the next step, during the experiment something went wrong, and they encased Bahamut and all of their experiments in Dalamud and lauched it into space. The rest up until now we obviously know.

The only question I have is what on earth is happening with Bahamut's head? Is it a backup built into Dalamud should he ever return? Are the experiments beginning again?
I also wonder how Ishgard would react if they knew the technology to control dragons was under La Noscea.

I can only guess there is a safety protocol set to preserve Bahamut. Everything there is automated and follows a set of programs despite being ancient. The Allagans have built their technology to last quite long from what we have seen in Binding Coil.

Unless there is some kind of twist that there is a Survivor of the Allagan civilization later and he or she is behind the events of Binding Coil. They do have quite the advance technology.

Personally I do not think Twintania was in Dalamud before the fall, in my opinion Twintania went into the Coil to attempt to free it's Primal when it heard his roar/call and an automated system attacked it and attached the controlling device, we already know the Coil has automated defense systems inside of it so it's not that crazy that Twintania fell victim to one such system.

I believe they wanted to use Bahamut as a step up from the Ultima Weapon, what is better to control the primal menace other than the strongest primal to exist? Or maybe it was a status symbol to intimidate the dragons and further bring them under control, I mean, what better way to crush their hopes than to make their god into a slave? Or alternatively they used the control systems to make him stay still long enough to encapsulate him within Dalamud, this could be why the 12 failed in their attempt, they couldn't control Bahamut to keep him silent/unmoving long enough for their 'prison' to become solid enough.

As for the whole 'crystal' thing... my theory is that it's either something that the Allagans created (maybe they made Bahamut? An artificial god? Or perhaps some sort of cyborg modified from a Primal, it would explain why he's still here, he's no longer a spirit so much as he is a machine) or something that is naturally there (we've never seen inside of a primal, maybe they all have crystals inside of their bodies like that?) But, back to what is happening with Bahamut, I think it's his life support systems, if he dies he should return to the aether so he can be summoned again and destroy the world, so instead the remains of Dalamud are keeping him alive but in pieces, he's been torn apart by the powerful magic technology of the Allagans (or maybe something more sinister is lurking in the depths of the Coil...) and now he's being sustained in a vegetative state.

Not only does this ensure that he can never return but it keeps him complacent, can't fidget those giant limbs of his, can't squirm his titanic body around, can't do anything but hope his 'hell' is put to an end, it's brilliant writing that way, makes him a sympathetic character and gives us a way to interact with him on a smaller/personal scale should there ever be a battle.

How did Mr. Happy get the pronunciation for Urianger's name wrong? It's used very clearly in a voiced cutscene...

    By T10 I'd hope he'd be a XXX-treme mode fight.
