No too sure how they would be able to pit the three nations against each other seeing as we are at this time all allies with a common enemy; speaking strictly of open world PVP outside of Ballista's.I agree. when they introduced PVP in FFXI it was popular for a little while then you would hardly see it. Only time I ever did it was with LS mates. Open PVP is tough to play in as a casual player, and going solo to PVE only to be ganked every time you leave the zone will only have more people leave. I like PVP, but not in this game setting.
Then let me join the garlean empire so I can be the common enemy.
I dont care if im hated. Just let me kill someone.
I think the reason some people are annoyed at Zenaku (I can at least speak for myself) is his obvious bias against PVP. What he is saying may be completely true: that open world pvp will basically never happen, however he presents his argument in an annoyingly biased way. I am a hardcore PVP fan but my unbiased opinion is that open world pvp will not happen in FFXIV.
However I wondered what Zenaku (and he claims the entirety of the Japanese player base as well though I highly doubt it's true) has against dueling?
I don't think open world pvp would work in XIV, however I do think -consensual- PVP would be a great popularity boost for the game, and dueling for example is as consensual as it gets. With an option to block duel request and dueling disallowed within city gates, I can't think of any reason anybody would be against dueling except for that they are simply biased PVP haters.
Ballista's longevity failed in my opinion simply because of how much a burden it is to play it (SE's stupid scheduling of matches or manually gathering uninterested players etc.). They just need to make the PVP easy to sign up for, for example WoW or WAR types of que-from-anywhere-at-anytime battlegrounds.
Also so that the PVE lovers and PVP haters don't cry, make the PVP have almost no rewards: at least not any that would be needed for PVE, so that the PVEers did not feel forced in any way to PVP. And, although I hate to say it, balancing (as with XI) probably should not happen with PVP in mind because simply, and nobody would probably argue against this, the FF MMOs are pretty much PVE games. However that in no way means that the game can't have really fun and enjoyable and awesome PVP that will bring in many FF fan subs whom love to PVP but don't play FF MMOs because the PVP sucks so badly (XI's PVP platforms and signup methods) in them or is non-existent (XIV).
