    Actually Any Job <> Any Class reduces the amount of balancing they have to do because they made no promise that all combinations would be beneficial. When they select specific combinations only they have to keep them balanced because they are saying "These combinations are balanced and we authorize them."

    I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

    Yeah, I doubt its locked in concrete that you'll be stuck playing the same job from the same class forever. And having a small number of jobs to implement at this point along with all the current class and equipment overhauling, should make it alot easier to balance early on, get players ready for all the content, and worry about expanding the job system later after XIV's base is stable.

    Dont forget they are also supposed to be overhauling the current equipment, class actions/performance, the way stats work, and enemy difficulty among other things...so its probably going to be like the true XIV starts at 1.18....hopefully.

    EDIT: Technically they have 14 things to adjust/rebalance. the 7 current classes and 7 initial jobs, so in reality if everything comes to pass as they've said, even the classes should play a little different than we're used to.

    And even with everything thats going on, the job system doesnt have or need to be similar to any other past FF title. Every FF title with a job system has worked fairly different than the last, so I expect the same here.

    Some classes don't make sense to point to on particular job though. Conjurer acts as a white mage and a black mage, so what are they going to do about that?

    Level job in some way to unlock new skills.
    Learn new job
    Change job
    Mix skills traits, or equipmentskill modifiers from old job to new job.
    New Job is better now.

    I dont think you could combine jobs in III,V,X-2, and to a certain extent 4 heroes of light (which works closer to how the XIV armory system works...except with books).

    Not sure how the XII international version job system worked since I havent played that.

    Balance isn't about preventing some combinations from being weaker than the others. It's about preventing unexpected synergies from creating uber-combinations that dominate the game. If they feed us a small number of combinations at a time, we're going to have smaller adjustments in the future rather than an "OMG they nerfed everything all at once!"

    Well I hope it doesn't mean that there are only going to be 7 jobs. Really am hoping there will be Dark Knight, Samurai, Summoner, Bard etc.
