Yup, there is some chance that you will get banned for buying or selling loads of stuff on auctions. There are some people who ended like this and SE gave them their accounts back after 1 month when they found out that those people were innocent. But they also deleted their gil ofc.

Even though I have farmed my shards up to this point, I plan to buy them soon simply because it is better to buy them and pass along the cost to buyers of the items you create. I've just stop short of buying them lately because of the very obvious RMT that are selling them for super low prices. Low prices are good for me but I'm not going to fund those pricks with my gil.

If SE implemented breaking clusters into more crystals into shards I'd reconsider buying shards off the market.

I wouldn't put it past SE to do it, honestly. A problem they fail to address harms a player, so then SE needs to harm the player in their Anti RMT/allyourgilismine tactics, when they could stem all of that by...dealing with bots every day or every other day. Waiting weeks will ensure they continue to tank a economy that is already sinking in many areas. :/

anyways, you can buy anything you want from the market board without fear of a ban.

You're not considering the opportunity cost of farming your own shards. Sure I could farm a few hundred shards in an hour, but I could instead have used that hour to farm for other things that I can sell for much more than what the shards cost me off the market.

OR you could make a new character and do all of the class quests to level 10 in your starting city then transfer them via guildbank or instance friend request to your main. Spending 2 hours of work for 500-1400 of each shard type is, well awesome.
