As stated already, Bavorois has an ability that when activated, targets a random player, and then begins to chase, cast and attack you until it uses the Flail ability.
Note for all that seemed to be missed, the ability is Conal (Invisible) and you can avoid the skill by standing to the flank/back of Bavorois.
Once the flail has gone off, his enmity returns normal. However you can still build enmity during this faze, so if the tank is not still generating any enmity. The others may end up with the enmity after flail faze.

Keep running and watch your aggro bar until the aggro is taken away from you. It's pretty easy, I never got hit by that (playing as DRG and BRD)

Little known fact: You don't even need to run from the boss when he randomly targets you. Just simply stand there and wait for him to cast fire, then run behind him. Fire will never finish casting and he'll flail right afterwards totally missing you and anyone else behind him. Same Mechanic as the Succubus Void Thunder and Rook Pox in Turn 4. Just wish more people knew this so melee dps wouldn't have to chase the boss down while the targeted player is running like mad around the room.

She doesn't always use Fire, though. I try to run in the direction that will give me the most distance so I don't get trapped, then keep running until I see that the tank clearly has it. Also make sure you're not standing in her way when she's chasing someone else since she'll still flail about if someone's too close infront of her (it's a conical attack).

If you have a black mage in the party: tell them to use Lethargy to put slow/heavy on the flan.
Warrior tank? tell them to Holmgang.
Any sort of bind attack? tell the DPS to stop attacking and use the bind until the tank has hate again

Other then that, are you using Sprint?

When I saw the thread title I was coming to say exactly this! Beaten to it!

I do this all the time myself. He doesn't always cast Fire first though. It's still easy enough to avoid since the flail comes roughly 10 seconds after he initially sets focus so just count to 8 (to account for latency) and run through him like normal, he'll probably flail immediately and even if he starts to turn he'll unlikely turn all the way around before flailing anyway. Just make sure your party knows what you're doing ahead of time.

On another note, I'm surprised how many tanks don't know you can avoid spell casts by just running behind or to the side of the caster. I watch tanks eat spells all the time and it's mind-boggling.

With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

@Forever_Learning, you have been given many advices so now is your turn to let us know if you survive the fight without being hit. Good luck mate.

if you have a bard or summoner, they can bind him, dragoons can slow him. Swiftcast + stoneskin + sprint is what I do. Or, if you are feeling daring you can run behind him, though those cast times are rather stringent and you need to be there with time to spare without him turning around and sometimes you still get hit behind him. I suggest the run behind if you are in DL gear as you will likely survive even if you get whomped. However running is almost always effective, doubly so if you are stoneskinned just in case and someone slows/binds the boss to give you a head start.

If you try to fail and succeed, which have you done?

As a healer, just popping sprint should be sufficient for this part of the fight. My BLM, which is mechanically in the same situation as a healer in that part of the fight, has never been hit by the flail.
