Yay..more FATES!
No..lol, PS3 is not a factor in any of this - It's a game design direction. ARR "can't do" what FFXI can do currently and that game is an 11 year old PS2 title.

They tuned down a lot of cool stuff that 1.0 had in order to optimize the game like char physics, body proportions, graphics, weather changes on clothes (If it was raining your clothes would look wet) and so on BUT even with all the stuff I miss from 1.0, I still like ARR more.

Op is asking for open world content...as most ppl in this thread are. Which of those are open world content for end game that require a full 8 man pt or alliance?Fine, here is my rebuttal for FFXIV: ARR is only add dungeons runs
Patch 2.1 will include the following:
Housing - Non Dungeon
PvP - Non Dungeon
Treasure Hunting - Non Dungeon
Beastmen Dailies - Non Dungeon
Extreme Primal - HNM, Not Dungeon
New Primal - HNM, Not Dungeon
Crystal Towers - Dungeon
HM Dungeon - Dungeon
New Dungeon - Dungeon
Player

Treasure Hunting? They said some will require a team of 50's to complete
My rebuttal stands but it easily shows their is more coming than just typical dungeon run patch that so many other MMO's have.when people say dungeons they likely mean "instanced" content. You can go as literal as you want with the terminology but an instanced boss battle accessible via duty finder is not overworld content, which the OP explicitly mentions. Your rebuttal falls short because half of what you mentioned is either not end gaming content and the things that were are in fact instanced/non overworld content.

Ooh I didn't know that, that is awesome then!!![]()
I hope we get to pop NM's and kill them and stuff...omg haha I am actually excited for something now
edit: Dyvid , do you have any posts of info about it from SE? I searched and can't find anything...but I want to show my friends who keep complaining about no Open World hard end game content...XD

Just what they briefly said in the LL. Don't expect a massive HNM fest though, most of the core end game stuff is going to be instance. I think it would be best for everyone that wants more open world stuff, tell the devs exactly what stuff you want to see.

Damnit lol ; ; Thanks for replying though![]()
Yeah this thread and OP seem to be asking for the core end game content to be open world. Not all of it but at least a something! I hope the devs take notice sooner rather then later.

I have run WP and gotten full whm DL except for ring, relic and one week from relic +1. Today I was running another WP and all I could think is man this is boring the crap out of me and I've only geared one job so far... So to answer you question OP, no I'm not very happy with this direction. I can only hope things change a bit with 2.1

Making content open world is not going to magically make content feel less tedious. That is the nature of MMO's, you enjoy the content at release, then start getting bored a few months in and feels more like a tedious chore, then new patch gets released and the cycle starts over. Making open world end game content the core if FFXI showed anything, made people just bored and angry doing the tedious work until a new expansion came out. It is nice to know I can engage in content without two or three other linkshells taking the claim away, especially with how many people do play the game. Accessibility to me is extremely important and things like instanced content and FATE are great ways to engage in content. Does it break immersion for me? Nope. I find it more realistic that if I am fighting a giant monster in a field, I don't have only 8 people fighting it and 30 people around me sitting and looking at it.
Am I saying there shouldn't be more open world content? No, I welcome any good ideas the development team bring into the table like treasure hunting. However, the game isn't going in a bad direction just because it depends more on instanced content than open world content.
Boy do I remember sitting in Labyrinth of Onzozo for 12+ hours with a group of people only for a dif group to get claim and then go "at least it didn't drop for them" and then repeat this process the next day and the day after. People who enjoyed this stuff are quite possibly retarded. I left 11 a week after my group actually getting the drop from him too because I was fed up with that shit.
