IMO, yes. Not much. but it does add flavor. Hyur are basically humans and Elezen are basically elves, but the game uses its own terminology to make things feel a little less generic. It does this in much the same manner that TV shows like Farscape and Battlestar Galactica use their own terms for measurements (as well as their own expletives, but that's mostly to avoid censorship.)
