    Job Unlock Quest Storyline - Whats yours?

    TL: DR Version at the end ^^

    I was think about how they would introduce Jobs in a storyline sense and thought it would be fun if we put down our storylines of how we would want to unlock our favourite job.

    First off I think they need to use Ishgard for the new Job's as I don't think they could just plonk them down in the 3 starter cities and it would be a good way to introduce the city to players. What I imagine as the path for DRK is this:

    You meet the requirements to start the DRK quest, the quest starts as a seemingly normal quest that begins in one of the starter cities. You are being sent to investigate the disappearance of some Merchants that were escorting goods through Coerthas, you pick up trail at Owl's Nest. NPC's tell you that the merchants travelled through a few days back heading to Ishgard but have not been seen since.

    So off you trek into Coerthas and gather more clues, NPC's on the way tell you of sightings of a huge beast that has been roaming around lately. You decide to hunt for this beast as the two incidents are probably related. Clues point you towards an area and in that area you discover a cave.

    You head into the cave a Chocobo runs out passed you and you hear a roar from within. As you inch your way inside you see the remains of the Merchant's, you hear a scream down one of the tunnels so run towards it. There at the end of the tunnel is a terrified Merchant but between you and him stands a Behemoth.

    You take on the Behemoth and after an epic and challenging fight you manage to slay the beast. After patting yourself on the back you realise that the Merchant is still terrified and scrambling in the corner.

    Out of the darkness a huge Behemoth emerges and looks very angry that your just killed it's baby. Needless to say this fight does not go so well and you are smashed against the wall. Just as it look like the end has finally come for you and you are about to become lunch the twinkling of a blade can be seen in the darkness.

    A shout bellows through the cave and the Behemoth turns, as you slowly regain your senses you witness a DRK in full AF battling the huge Behemoth in an epic fight. The DRK is making this Behemoth look easy and puts it down without much trouble.

    Once the fight is over the DRK tells you that the Merchants were poachers and were trying to kidnap the baby Behemoth to sell on Ul'dahs Black Market and the mother was defending her territory. He had been tracking them and watched as the poachers got what they deserved when the mother returned early from her hunting. He is angry you killed the baby and forced him to knock out the mother Behemoth and says you owe him a debt. To repay that debt you will work for them and in return they will train you in the ways of the Dark Knight and help you realise your full potential. To get your started he throws you a weapon and tells you to slay 100 beasts and then report to him in Ishgard.

    The end..... or is it the beginning ^^

    From there as you meet certain requirements you could be issued a new quest and upon completion the DRK will teach you a new skill/ability eventually culminating in the battle of you vs. master to test your fully unlocked potential, kind of like the Maat fight. Then possibly have you face off against a new threat as of yet unseen when Eorzea are looking for the best of the best to create a team of elite soldiers to take on this new found menace.

    *TL: DR Version*

    I think they should use the introduction of Jobs as an an epic way to start branching storylines and also introduce Ishgard as a city. I would be really sad if they didn't use this opportunity to do something great and show us what they can do with some kickass cutscenes and battles.

    Anyway what is your story of how you want your job to be unlocked?

    This is how I'd like the quests to be like, perhaps even lore of the Job System itself.

    Jobs are more like advanced training provided by the Grand Companies in past wars. The purpose of Jobs was to strengthen the military in ways of providing more focus into certain roles.

    As for the Job Quests themselves, Monk would be a little difficult to explain. Perhaps Monks could have been a form of Martial Arts that was practiced in Ala Mihgo. Very few people know of the techniques used by Monks. You must speak with survivors to unlock Monk and then return to these survivors for the ability quests. ^^

    Im betting thats how they'll tie in the jobs and the new battle system (auto attack+stat revision) as well.

    I hope the advanced jobs are deeply tied to the company lore! I would love "echo" moments where we see the past and creation of the job or "epic" people who were once the job.

    In an early FF (V I believe) there was a necromancer class which could not be cured because it would take damage from cure, I would love to see something like this, the uber nerd in me wants the weapon to be a bell so I can walk around going "I'm the Abhorsen". ANywho on topic they job would compliment the I love dead things nature of the thm guild, but in the past a few become necromancers (add the can't be cured aspect give them dark heals, only 1 summon, and it doesn't last long, do not try to make this like AoC or some other mmo). My point here is that THm is the class that inspires the grand companies to make necromancers in times of need or red mages if they want. The Gladiator's guild have a few chosen among them to become Paladins or Dark knights in the past for the companies. The jobs don't have to be the ones I said, I just want the companies to be inspired by the classes and create their own version of them in the advanced job I guess.

    on note with the forum again I would like the quests to use that echo thing to go deeper into why the companies needed these advanced jobs in the past.

    I wrote mine under the impression that each job would have an organization to represent it the way the classes have their own guilds. Even though that has proven to so far not be the case, I'll summarize my idea since I had NPC dialogue and a whole bunch of other things added in.

    The Red Mage unlock quest would start when the PC talks to a random scholarly elezen in Gridania who is looking over the history of various orders and organizations of Eorzea. She mentions that several orders have been making a return to the public eye due to the looming dark times, and of one called the Order of the Crimson Blade, which she had heard rumors is looking to reemerge after more than 15 years since it's being decommissioned. She shows interest in looking over the details of this order, as the history books are pretty clear in that the order was never due to come back due to political issues in its home city of Ishgard.

    The quest would convince the PC to investigate the rumors behind the order and find any supposed recruiters in the city, which indeed does lead to the PC meeting a guy that claims to be one of the new leaders, asks the PC for an induction fee and then sends the PC into an ambush to try to loot the PC's corpse for everything it's worth. As luck would have it, the PC manages to fight off the thugs and is helped by a self-proclaimed fencer named Rainemard. A female hyur named <name pending> arrives as well with the "recruiter" in tow, and give the thugs a whatfor for besmirching the Red Mages of the Order (thus revealing these recruiters are scammers that have been robbing hapless adventurers blind).

    After some dialogue, the two Red Mages reveal that they've been trying to get the order reinstated but cannot without the support and leadership of the order's former grandmaster, an elder lalafel named Homel Romel (who pretty much refuses to talk about the matter as he is embittered by politics and the Order's "misuse" in the past -- my way of making a reference that some of us front-line RDMs are a little sore over the whole Refresh bot thing from FFXI). Seeing the PC's interest in the order, they ask for the PC's help in convincing Homel Romel in hopes that he takes on the mantle of leadership and brings the order anew to play their role in the dark days to come. In return, they offer to give the PC a crash course on Red Magery (or magic fencing, as Rainemard calls it), thus unlocking the job to the player.

    The subsequent quests would continue the storyline (and assumed you could rank up the jobs just like you could the weapon classes), going from encounters with the former grandmaster to doing the trial of the Three Paths (as the mainstay of the Red Mage tradition is the fact that it is a mix of physical combat, protective/healing magic and crippling/destructive magic), and the end of the questline would be a Maat-style fight against Homel Romel himself to prove your worth to him. I also wanted to include a quest in the middle that would be a reference to the maesters from A Song of Ice and Fire, who add a link to the chains they wear representing every discipline they master. In the case of RDM, it would be a quest chain for the Red Mage to have his insignia or badge of the Order made, with the three materials required for the insignia representing the three disciplines that make up the Red Mage.

    Unlocking the job would get you:
    Fencing Trainee's Swordbelt
    Requires: Red Mage
    Accuracy +3 Magic Accuracy +3
    The AF quests would net you the iconic Red Mage gear (with actual melee mage stats) as well as upgrade your belt to Fencer's Swordbelt, Estoqueur's Swordbelt, and finally Magic Fencer's Swordbelt.

    Granted, this won't ever happen now seeing what has been revealed about the jobs so far, but I still kind of wanted to see:

    <You receive Fencing Trainee's Swordbelt>
    <You receive Crimson Blade linkpearl>
    <You can now change your job to Red Mage>

    PS: Thank you OP for letting me finally get that off my chest.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
