In 1.0 we could convert fish into shards and crystals and that was how I planned on getting the alc luminary done but I never figured they would remove the fish conversion from the game like they did. I want it back badly because I don't enjoy spending hours and hours every day after I'm locked out of coil just on gathering mats for the next week's food supply.
As it stands, buttons in a blanket takes 6 fire shards and 6 water shards per synth and farming enough shards to make sure I'm stocked it tedious and boring. I never thought I'd say this but I miss 1.0's way of farming shards. I used to hit the raptors by Iron Lake and get raptor skins, raptor sinew, raptor shanks and fire shards out the yinyang.. I miss doing that.

1 shard per hit is incredibly ridiculous and if you want to get the achievements in higher zones and say want to keep farming fire shards for example, you can't. They have so many empty slots on the gathering spots that could be filled with shards. If I could farm fire shards and water shards all the way through the achievement categories for the luminary btn and min tools I would.

Maybe a way of "balancing" with crafting, would be to give gatheres +1 shard yield for every 10 level, starting at level 20 to kinda force RMT to lvl up aswell if they want it.
So at lv 20, you have 2 shards/hit.
    lv 30, 3 shards/hit
    and so on.
That's actually not a bad idea, better than 1 shard per hit for sure.

Once you get a craft to 50, and get a stockpile of materials preparred, the shards last quite a long time (I tend to farm my own during DF queues), so perhaps the appearance of a shard shortage is a consequence of demand being front-loaded by the game being relatively new. On the flipside, I don't think we're going to see the market crash if they allow us to break down clusters and crystals
They don't last a while if you're a culinarian...I don't know if you are one but if you're not and you know one, ask them about how much it costs to make food used in the current endgame shardwise.

1.00 also had Alchemists leveling on them. That was the balanced version and why all 42+ recipes require 6 and 6 shards. You could make shards from muddy water. In this system the only people with shards are bots and I don't judge them. I associate it with Ice mining in EVE Online. Nobody but a bot would or should do it.

Do you miss 1.0's crafting leves yet? Everything was provided.

Welcome to the real world! I mean you have 4 node locations one gives and extra hit use your action that grants 3 per yield and that's 18at that node and run to the others!

There was a recipe in Alchemy to break crystals into shards, was around lvl 5 or so. Something like this would be nice to see again.

As I have pointed out, they have an Achievement system.

    They could add:
Level 30 and level 50 you get an achievement and in it you get a Job stone. You go to the guy in old grid to get the job stone, it allows for +3 and +5 to shard yields at those levels.

If they add new job stones to gathering, it isn't an issue. They can be switched out.
If someone already has Miner 50 it isn't an issue, they go to old grid and get their Job stones.

The current system is bot friendly and has no function.

some of my goldsmithing recipes use a lot of shards (just to make amber from raw amber is 5 wind shards) can go through a lot of shards real quick. no I do not want to spend my gil on shards. SE could do something to improve this. either decrease the amount of shards per synth or increase the amount of shards per hit in mid to high level gathering areas. (rmt usually stick to the low level areas. at least from my experience)
