This. I've seen a ton of people take that answer as "Extreme primal battles will be part of the main story." They might be, so I won't say that they aren't, but the "and/or" seems to be missed by many. The "Yes." could just mean that they are tied with the relic quest.

Even then "Tied to the main story" doesn't mean "Continuation of." The hard mode primals are technically tied to the mainstory but I wouldn't say they're a continuation of the main story. There's an in game explanation on why they're stronger that is indeed tied to the main story. The game acknowledges that they have been defeated. The game states they have been re-summoned with an increasing use of crystals. Does that mean the primal quests must be beaten when say.. an expansion comes out before you can work on the main story? Doubt it.

How could they not be considered a continuation of the main story? The story continues after you reach 50 and beat all the hard mode primals again. The story then takes you to Bahamuts coil where the next chapter is taking place. You cannot reach this until you go through and beat the hard mode primals. So yes, it is very much so a continuation of the main story. And given that, its logical to assume the extreme primals will be treated in the same fashion. Having to do with both the main story and the relic, not one or the other.

I'm glad someone finally figured it out.

THERE, you've hit right on it. Call me an old fan-boy, but I don't remember there being an item-level on ANY of the gear in Final Fantasy 11. (Yes, this is not 11; spare me the trouble of having to read your reply to that.) This item-level trend that has surfaced on mmo-type games is, in my opinion, destroying the experience. Hardcore, to-the-limit minded people will always exist, but quantifying this behavior with a number is something I would love to see stopped.

    And another thing...

I don't know, maybe design elements such as these are too retro. Don't get me wrong, I love FFXIV, but it would be nice to see a return to old gearing trends such as branching gear, not vertical gear. What I mean by branching is that the new gear doesn't eclipse the old. Every patch doesn't make me replace what I've spent weeks/months/years of my life trying to obtain. The sense of accomplishment is what's ruined by such behavior. Taking a page out of WoW's book here with this next question: Do you really enjoy having an expansion released and having all of your raid or 'epic' loot replaced instantly with questing greens? Really? Not every game needs to have vertical gear progression to be appealing. If that's your thing and you swear by it, there are PLENTY of options in the mmo market out there for you.

Yep, it's incorporated in XI now too and pretty much determines the end-game, so prior to it it doesn't do as much as it does in XIV (basically be all end all), so even in XI it's done a bit better lol.

Not my point. It's a branch in the story. "Epilogue." kind of events. My point is I don't think when an expansion hits beating coils is even required to begin the "New storyline." There's a reason why even though coils of Bahamut exists as do the primal hard mode there's credits after you beat Praetorium. Sorry, coils is a side quest after the storyline has come to an end.

Yup the branch is called: chronicles of a new era. They are not part of the main scenario quests even thought they have the same icons as the main scenario quests.

Looks more like a prologue than an epilogue. The very nature of MMOs is the story is always expanding. The Primals and Bahamut aren't just a sidequest. This is a continuation into where the story is heading as a whole. Therefore it is part of the main overarching storyline of Eorzea. The 'story' didn't end with the credits.

Personally I have no reason what so ever to run CT other than to get the unlocks the 1st time. CT is pointless and should have been launched with the game but wasnt. What they should have done was delayed the original launch when it was ready. They dropped the ball on this and I am willing to bet that because players have to wait til 2.2 its gonna hurt them.
