You can still go there and level a job from 1-10.

Considering I played it for 8 years straight, and it's still going now, I'd say it isn't. It may not be as big as WoW, but it has a very extensive community all on it's own. It was a tough game to get into, especially for those new to MMO's. When I first played it, I nearly quit before hitting lvl 10, but when a stranger who eventually turned into my ls leader and one of my best friends, helped me get through my first quests, I fell in love with the game and it's community from there.

Sadly, I quit before the cap was raised from 75. I tried going back once, but without my friends, it wasn't the same. Levels can be obtained very easily now. It took me months to get to lvl 75, while now it can be obtained in just a few days.

I miss it...but XIV has helped fill the void.

Haha loved the game it had its good times and its bad times but the experience was like no other. Everything in the game taught you something if you was willing to learn, everyday was a struggle but I believe that was its charm. Remember those rabbits? You know the one's that read ep (easy prey)? The one that could kick your ass lol? Anyways there was always 1 bunny that would eat you alive.

    My favorite.

FFXI was just a different game. No better and no worse simply because it was different and from another age of gaming.

The exact same ting happened to me. I remember I was in La Theine Plateau and I was really frustrated trying to figure out how to do a quest (this was my first MMO and I had no clue of the plethora of info online) when I said in frustration, something along the lines of "This game is way too hard to figure out what to do/where to go, I quit."

I didn't even know there was anyone near me, when an awesome Galka named Jumanal sent me a tell and begged me not to quit, offered to guide me, and a spot in his linkshell. Four years later I was banned, but it was a great four years!
