Immersion/Worldbuilding.

I posted this in another thread but felt it was worth discussing a little:

I like all the little trinkets and crap SE gives us with the bardings and mounts.

I think the mounts for the most part make sense. Maybe not the Eye, I thought Eye's were sentient, intelligent creatures and having one as a pony seems slightly out of place.

I like minions that are various critters and constructs (airship/mammet) but when the minion is a mini person like the fighter and such, or a mini famous person, it kinda breaks the immersion of the game.

Final Fantasy games are about creating worlds, and stories.

Now we have to be super serious and save Eorzea from the Garleans.. .with mini Raubahn by my side...

It would be like watching The Godfather and in some deep dramatic scene Tom Green walks in and starts humping a sea turtle.

The pointer minion I thought was kinda funny and dismissed it, but I think some of these other minions take away from the world they are trying to create.

Tonight on 'The Walking Dead' Daryl and the Governer go to Disney Land and meet Micky Mouse.

The Hobbit, desolation of Smaug.. Bilbo and friends get in their brand new Ford Raptor and drive the rest of the way, saving loads of time and keeping them perfectly safe due to all these safety features!!

The Avengers are back, and just as they save the day, Keanu Reeves tells them this is all the matrix.

Mass Effect 4, none of those crap endings even really happend, the reavers were actually defeated by Donkey Kong and Mario!

When companies spend good money to establish a living world for their IP, and then do something way out of left field like this it seems out of place whether I use the content or not.

Immersion/Worldbuilding went out the window with the Derpy Finder.

I'm not saying 1.0s system was perfect, farming Inferno Tapers was fairly annoying for the sheer simplicity of the task, but it was worlds better than the Lord of the Inferno being quite literally a stones throw away at any given moment... I have a harder time finding my keys than I do reaching the Bowl of Embers, which is supposedly a sacred area for the Amalj'aa. How are they a real threat to Ul'dah when literally anyone can teleport right into the middle of their territory for a surprise attack?

It's mainly because they are separating this game from Final Fantasy we know and love and catering to the masses

Sort of said this before, but sadly this is probably what Yoshi-P meant with the MMO = Theme Park thing.

You gotta have everything close and everything conveniently handed to you for maximum fun. People gotta be able to walk to the Winter Wonderland from the Jungle Waterslide in less than two minutes or the kids will get weary legs. Immersion gets thrown to the trash. Too much of a hassle. Your monthly fee is now basically a wrist band to a theme park rather than a permission to be part of a virtual world.

I kind of like cute things in games... But maybe it is too much so I agree...

YoshiP said they're trying to keep the immersion and world lore... But with minions they're going all out fan service lol... *Still waiting for the sailor male outfits and maid outfits for female loooooooooool*

Some minions are toys made by a toy-maker, in the real world there are toys based on US Presidents so why not Eorzean leaders?
