What happend to variety and options.

So we have point allocation... Um Why? Tanks pick Vit, DPS picks their damage stat, Healers pick their healing stat... is there really an option here?

So we have materia... Um Why? Everything is hard capped and you either pick the proper stat or you waste. It's not like there are feasible options or directions you could build your character in.

In FFVII exploring different materia builds was fun! There were lots of successful variations.

In FFVIII exploring different junction builds was fun! Tons of different possibilities!

I really feel like we have a choice but we don't have a choice... Pick the right one or fail. I'd love to see some build variety options in the future. That actually work.

Finally please give god gear back to the crafters! Near the end of 1.0 you all stated ultimately crafted gear will have the most potential.... I just watched a 3 hour live letter talking about all this new iLvl 60 - 95 stuff coming up and none of it is crafter based.

Developing our characters is fun! Having to pick the same thing everyone else picks is not fun!

Because you can't balance an MMO the same way as a single player game. You can have those things in VII and VIII because you don't need balance at all really. You can have overpowered classes and underpowered. The more options that get put into an MMO, the more it has to be balanced around all possible combinations. And in the end? People will find the best option. People will use the best option.

I get the feeling that you want to tank as a bard.

If I had an awesome mobility build option... sure why not give it a shot. But tanking as bard wouldn't be my first choice... I think as bard my first choice would be to play as well... a bard! Currently I play my bard as an archer, who occasionally ballads... or songs to SR.

BRD was so much better as a support caster type.

I'd also consider tanking as SMN... they do give us Tank summons right? Am I not supposed to use those?

    Why not?
Woulda been cool if we had like a DPS WHM.
Then again, we're going by Final Fantasy skills....So
a million classes is all you get with no variety of changing class one.
But it is kinda boring for us to all be the exact same...

FF is the wrong series to get into if you don't like your class/job being the same. As proven even if you are the same some people are still better than others, that's when player skill comes into play. Do you know how to even use cure on WHM/SCH? Congratulations! You're already better than most healers that play WHM and SCH.

Do you know how to move and manually control your pet? Congratulations, you're way better than most ACN/SCH/SMN. Thing is, even if we're "all the same" that's kind of the point of wanting to play a FF MMORPG, you wanted to play an MMO of an offline series and should have some knowledge of the series - If you chose ARR because it's an MMO, you'd definitely be disappointed if you figured the class system would be like any other. SE knows full well not to slap FF onto something clearly not FF, hence 1.0's original class system being despised because it had zero image to the FF series outside of shared skills from XI.

Also classes with no variety? In ARR maybe if they try to keep it "standard", but a lot of the FF classes may share similar skills but they have very different utilization. For example Blue Mage? Sure, it'll have a cure ability but which other mage, in FF, uses monster skills and gains benefit from even equipping their skills (XI)? There's two types of Summoner in FF - The one we all know and the one that had White and Black Magic attached specifically to the summon, even that's two different types of the same class. You can't escape a White Mage and Red Mage knowing how to use "Cure" because that's basic magic, what sets them apart is their role specific abilities/magic, not because you can tank as a WHM or nuke as a Bard instead of curing and using songs.

They do, 10 to all stats, and 20 to the primary. Paladin for Example, the 20 is to vit.

There are options actually. I tested this yesterday per one of my friend's request. As a WHM i had my stats 15 in Mind 15 in Piety. Others i've heard put all 30 into mind. However i decided to goof off and put all 30 into Vitality and see what difference it made in my health as well as healing. In total my HP went from 4000 to almost 4.5k with the party bonus. And my heals only suffered about 50 points on average, maybe slightly more. So it does indeed seem like there are other viable options to explore, however you need to find a way to make it work for ya.
Also the use of HQ food will push you past your soft cap on your stats, so there's that as well.
