eh... coerthas is now 1/5 the size it used to be, mor dhona is 1/2. hardly call it comparable size

That's because it's clearly missing sections that made up the whole zone in 1.0 (that's why at the moment it's only called the 'Coerthas Central Highlands' - the rest of the map isn't available at this time), same with the southern section of Mor Dhona, and the West Shroud for the Black Shroud.
The old zones were basically the same size, only they were seamlessly linked together and thus only seemed larger (and had large expanses of empty space with copy-pasted textures). 1.0's 'larger zones' was just an illusion.
Still, I miss the old zones, even with their emptiness and copy-pasted textures repeated ad nausum. I guess it's a case of not realizing what you have til it's gone.![]()

Part of navigation is utilizing landmarks to determine where you are and where you need to go.
When significant parts of the terrain look the same, it can become confusing and disorienting.
You come across a loop over, down and under and subconsciously make a landmark of it, then come across 3 more that are exactly the same.

Black Shroud v1
Thanalan v1
The biggest complaint was cut & paste zone and tunnel vision.

I thought those who want vanilla pre-expansion World of Warcraft back had the rose-tinted glasses on too tight. Then I saw this thread.
You see this? Do you see this?
This is nothing but copy-pasted clumps of trees in every conceivable direction with high-pitched "suspense" music playing on loop forever.
This is a certain kind of hell.
That hell is called horrible, lazy level design.

Am I the only one who prefers smaller zones?
I like bumping into people everywhere I run.
I haven't played 1.0, but I suppose it was hard seeing other people out in the world.
I much prefer the smaller zones. The only exception would be Thanalan, which actually felt like a desert in 1.0.
It's weird to see that people would happily accept quantity over quality, just for the illusion of a seamless world. The copy+pasta job was horrible. And the limits on fast travel meant that you had to walk everywhere.
people prefer the 1.0 layout for the same reason why they prefer crab parties to fate parties. nostalgia is a terrible, terrible thing :O
I have to say something I miss from 1.0 is definitely the possibility to discover little (or not to little) dungeons everywhere, especially around limsa... I have quite the nice memories from those moments where I got completely lost and my ls members had to save me :P
