SE is going downhill, they keep churning out crappy and disappointing games, I'm a fan of SE, so i hope they wake up, they really need to change their old school mindset.
It is easy to bash other people.
But please be careful in your judgment. We are seeing only one side of what was obviously a bad experience for both parties.
Going into a relationship with the intent to "revolutionize" the other party says something about their attitude and possibly how they treat their business partners."We wanted to come in and revolutionize Final Fantasy, which is exactly what they need," said the brothers. "The latest version sucks of course."
Just because SE is a game development company does not mean that everyone who works at SE is technically savvy.At one point, SquareEnix requested the Anderssons send the code via fax. "It is as silly as it sounds. It is an impossible requirement, you can not send ascii or binary codes on the fax. It is backward. Really retarded. It was almost a criminal activity."
Faxes are still widely used here in Japan, and it may have been an administrative assistant who made the request out of ignorance or inexperience.
Again. Saying the other company is "retarded" and their product "sucks" in public discourse does not speak very highly of their professionalism.
They may have caught SE in a trap with that. Probably embarrassing for SE.SquareEnix thought that their concept art didn't look like Final Fantasy, so the brothers decided to test them by sending concept art from Final Fantasy XII. As they had before, they responded with "It does not look like Final Fantasy."
But again, it does not imbue me with respect for GRIN.
Maybe they are technical wizards. Maybe they can make great games.GRIN may be six feet under now, but their former staffers have formed other studios since the closure. It's possible we may see what they've been working on at E3.
But they they are gone. That fact says a lot in itself.
You guys defending SE are nuts. What do you have against GRIN? Some other time I'm going to make a thread to show you the difference between GRIN's work and the crazy copy/pasta we got dished on FFXIV. There's no comparison. And no doubt that GRIN would have shipped better looking FF art for FFXIV if they were given a chance. SE is way behind the times right now, it's sad. None of you have anything to lose by commenting on GRIN, or *gasp* agreeing with them.
graphics look good (atleast from what i see), but watching the video it really feels different from the usual FF game.
i guess SE & GRIN should have worked together on a different RPG tho, i bet i would have played it, the video looked interesting after all.
world's harsh after all, if you can't keep up you get lost on the track.
We all know SE's quality of work is nowhere near where it used to be, and they have rightly admitted that. This tends to happen as a company becomes larger. I foresaw this when the merger happened. More money, and IP does not equal epic quality games. This is why people leave companies and start their own gaming companies. Usually because they become too large, and too corporate. Which usually leads to less creativity.
So lets all give SE the benefit of the doubt, give them constructive ideas, and see where they take FFXIV, and the FF franchise...they do need a new IP BTW!
If they don't deliver in by say the end of next year for FFXIV then I personally will probably give up on the company. Until then Ganbatte SE!

SquareSoft could do no wrong, innovation and story telling were their bread and butter... then enix came in... and it's been downhill ever since. Squaresoft and enix were two very different rpg makers and it is unfortunate that enix has taken over as they were never my preferred developer. Now I realize that the two companies can never be separated, but no one can deny that since the merger Square has taken a sharp turn to the left. Square needs reign the enix beast in, slap on the collar and show them the way SquareSoft did things and get the franchise under control before it self destructs.
Not saying that the information is false but using a "wiki" as a source is not a fact. But i'm sure you are wise enough to know that.

Sadly, the quality of SE's game is really diminishing...
FF7 -> AWESOME
FF8 -> great
FF9 -> epic
FF10 -> excellent
FF11 -> best mmo (imo)
FF10-2 -> errr...
FF12 -> ugh...
FF13 -> meh...
FF14 -> holys***wtfbbq!
