    the problem is coming from all the player related data that is taking over the data busses, CPU time, etc.. All the custom texture data, positions, actions and the level of physics being used to render them, etc.-- all of that has to run through to the card so it can be rendered. You're bogging down getting everything from your wire to the card to process it.

    What we need is a slider for limiting number of characters drawn and/or drawing distance (something like they did in XI--except this time make it work properly).

    Srsly. The ability to cut down on player count/draw distance would fix almost all the performance issues this game has in my experience.

    In response to the guy/gal using a laptop, their CPUs are ironically pretty on par with desktop ones on the higher end models, but their GPUs are quite poor; a GTX 780M is nowhere on par with a GTX 780, 770, 680, or even a 670 for that matter (even though it costs over $500 and the 770 is currently ~$350). So GPU bottle-necking on a laptop is not surprising--FFXIV is an extremely GPU intensive MMO when you don't have 30+ player models to deal with.
