That's not true. I oppose most of the features from FF11 people ask for but recently someone posted 5 things from FF11 and how he'd implement it in FF14. I thought two of them were really good. I still opposed the three others. One of them was a new way to do HNM by having regular mobs drop an item when enough of these are collected you could spawn an instance ala Chimera for your group to fight it. I agreed with that one. Another one was "Add an update that adds five levels and fight uber hard mobs you must fight in a group. The five levels should take weeks of hardcore grinding in order to hit the level." I opposed of this idea.
Most of the features people ask to bring over from FF11 would change FF14's core design and focus. Anything that involves heavy experience grinding is fought against. People are opposed to this. Anything that requires standing around for hours in order to claim a certain mob that spawns at a set interval is opposed to. When people suggest there should be items that take 3 months to a year in order to obtain.. this is opposed to. People also disagree with having to carry around and switch around multiple sets of gear. The problem is this game has attracted a certain demographic and that certain demographic doesn't like most of FF11's features. You mention that many features in other mmo's are celebrated. This is because those features fit well here and many old school features do not.
This game may take some aspects of FF11 but it will never take many of them. This game will never heavily resemble FF11. I do not want forced grouping. I do not want to grind for hours on end. I don't want to keep switching gear depending on the encounter. I don't want to stand around relying on a claimbot in order to grab a certain "mob" first. I don't want to spend months to years in order to hit level cap and I don't want to take years in order to get a certain piece of gear. In fact, I'm already opposed to the gating for mythic gear. It already takes too long to get my mythic set. Is it bad enough to make me quit? No, but taking 3+ months to complete a full set of gear when I play regularly is a bit much. Yet some people ask for that time to be doubled or even quadrupled.
