I certainly don't join DF expecting speed runs(perfectly happy with 35 minutes) but I don't join it to be in a party with someone wanting to be carried by the rest of the team while they put on sub-par gear just for that chance of 50k gil.

It's far more likely you'll be carrying someone who isn't spiritbinding than someone who is. I've lost count the number of times I've ended up grouped with bad people, such as blackmages that only use Blizzard, dragoons or monks that cannot execute a simple combo, or tanks that take more damage than I do and have no idea what Flash is. Those I see spiritbinding usually have a grasp on how to play their class.
I won't lie i've tanked WP and AK with a few pieces of crafting and gathering gear on and not just accessories. Thank you option to hide head gear![]()
You realize people can rightclick you and check your gear >_>"
Spiritbonders wear ilvl 55 items. Everyone else aren't spiritbonders, they are just terrible geared.
dont be confused.
I usually lump on white Level 47-49 accessories on my Tank for a bit of light SBing on DF runs.
They're dirt cheap to buy and guarantee a T3 Materia after two runs.
Usual return is about 5-10 times the cost of the item.
T4 materias are better, obviously, but it's a low chance and I usually can't be bothered sourcing cheap crafted i55+ stuff so often.
I can't remember the last time I did Wanderer's Palace or AK trash mobs fully clad in i70-i90 accessories, even on pre-planned "speed runs"... though I still make a point of swapping in my regular gear for boss fights, especially in AK.
Those are spiritbonders who don't want to drag down a party just for their greed and will almost always change to their true gear when the need arises. Anytime I encounter the other type of spiritbonders with full sub 50 whites they are always dead weight, dying left and right doing worse dps than a tank with no relic, but then again probably terribad players in the first place. Those who spiritbond just accessories isn't a problem either since they still have the vast majority of their stats covered.
