Crafting Question in the upcoming update.

Hello all you lovely crafters. As people get hyped up about Crystal Tower, FC housing and other new things in general, i'm kind of scared of the upcoming change. It's been confirmed that level 80 gear will be dropping Crystal Tower. Now, I understand crafters will have a lot to do in terms of the crafting items for housing, but how does it affect lvl 80?

I was told(not sure if this has been confirmed) with the expansion, Tomes will be even easier to farm. This will drop prices even further for the ilvl 70 Crafted gear. What's the point of Gil(besides buying a house) and Materia when it comes to higher level gears?

Currently, ilvl70 Jewelry exceeds 90, only if it is melded correctly. I'm assuming the lvl 80 gear will be unmeldable, uncraftable, and unobtainable for those who don't raid. In the end, lvl 90 gear and (currently) lvl 70 melded jewelry are the best. So what happens to craftable gear?(not jewelry, gear). In other words, are crafters who make gear screwed?

Seeing as there have been no currently announced changes to crafting, this includes new recipes, outside of housing items, I would say this essentially destroys Ilvl 70 crafted gear entirely. Crafters who make gear have been rather screwed for a while as the game offers plenty of alternatives to what you can make for much much cheaper. It may not always be the absolute best of the best, but to a vast majority that won't matter. It'll get them thru to allagan and af2 and that's all that it has to do.

I personally doubt we'll see any item level 80 recipes at all considering they seem to have announced every big upcoming addition with 2.1 and new gear was not mentioned at all. This being the case, sell off that potash and coke and what not while it still has worth because it and the gear it makes is about to become cheap cheap cheap.

I'm not too fond of it. I feel like now i have to dungeon grind in order to get my gear rather then buying the tomes from people and crafting my own. I don't like it!

I'm not sure this is entirely accurate. According to an interview with Yoshi (Found here: http://www.usgamer.net/articles/final-fantasy-xivs-yoshida-pvp-creates-a-real-living-economy) he says how important PvP is to the economy. Specifically:

his is decision that gets really deep into the basic design of an MMORPG. In most MMORPGs, you have crafters and gatherers that support and build the economy of an MMO. The gatherers will gather the material and the crafters will take the materials and they're craft things. But to make sure that gatherer and crafters have things to create, you need content that uses these things. You need to create a demand for those items. By having more content, like PVP, then it will use these items.

In a game like this, we don't expect every player to play PVP. We actually think it's going to be around 15 to 20 percent of the userbase. These players, when they really get into PVP, are going to need different types of items and armor than they will need in PVE. For example, when you're fighting a single monster and that monster casts Sleep on you, you won't really need an armor that might cut that Sleep in half, because it's a one-on-one thing and you can wait that 30 seconds. But in a PVP-type of battle you're not going to want to stand there for 30 seconds because that could be the end of you. So, you're going to need a different type of armor, armor that will cut that Sleep versus fighting a regular monster. You're going to need all of these specialty items that won't really help a lot in PVE, but will help in PVP. By creating this new set of items that are only for PVP, it's creating more work for those crafters and gatherers.
This seems to suggest there will be new craftable armor in 2.1 (when PvP is introduced), PvP armor at least.

That would be terrific! Thank you for pointing that out. I'm only a lvl 50 GSM and 15 everything else (Crafter wise) but I would very much like to see crafting get some hugs in this game.

You are entirely correct. Yoshi P has indeed hinted at PvP crafted gear. It would not be surprising to see new crafted gear in 2.1. I will go so far as to wager that we will see ilvl 80 or 90 crafted gear for two reasons.

The first is readily apparent to all players. If you take a look at the catalysts for materia melding on the market boards you will see that Grade 5 carbonized matter is indeed obtainable and sellable in game. Now, we know there are currently 4 tiers of materia. So what use is this Grade 5 carbonized matter? That leads us to our second reason: Tier V materia. Now, for those of you who did not play beta, you wouldn't know this, but during beta there were indeed 5 tiers of materia available on the market boards. The fifth tier has since been removed...(and i found a picture i took!)

Now, you can see that in beta this materia was for ilvl 90 gear. You are free to speculate as to what we may see in the future. I cannot guarantee that we will be seeing ilvl 80 or 90 craftable gear in 2.1. I can, however, guarantee that we will be seeing either ilvl 80 or 90 craftable gear in the future, be it patch 2.1 or 2.2.

That being said, crafting is an essential part of this game. The HQ gear you make gets spiritbound quicker than NQ versions, which are then used to convert into materia and forbidden meld into the highest level gears making them better than darklight. It's a bit foolish to think that Yoshi P would invent such an intricate crafting system full of synergies only to discard the whole as soon as the first patch comes out. The most likely scenario is that he will continue to add onto this system.

We know that AF+2 will be coming out in the future, which may as well be ilvl 100 gear. I would not be surprised to see ilvl 90 crafted gear with forbidden Tier 5 materia melds end up comparable in stats to ilvl 100 gear (lets say AF2) perhaps obtainable from Rowena? and for the hell of it we may see ilvl 110 gear drop from future coil (post turn 5). This would give us a parallel gear system that we have today with darklight, ilvl 70 crafted gear and ilvl 90 AF+1/allagan gear.

You guys gotta give the man more credit!
