Bank/Auction House Retainer system is lackluster.

What was the point of making this system in the first place? to be different from other MMOs? this is one area I'm sure 99.99999999999% of all players wouldn't mind if you copied.

I hate having to check the market board prices, then run to the retainer to list items in the market. Why not let us check the auction prices from the retainer? Why even have them separate in the first place.

The bank/retainer doesn't offer enough space. I'd like us to be able to spend money or tomes into increasing it in size. The crafting professions take up a lot of space and the retainer character gets filled up pretty fast. Leatherworkers/Weavers could make bags that increase our inventory space as well.

Allowing the retainer to search for auctions listed at least would make listing items much easier, at least start with that.

Like a lot of things in ARR, it's a holdover from version 1.0, which had a literal Market Ward (an instanced area your player access which had retainers all standing around physically). The original idea was to avoid RMT manipulating an Auction House system like was used in FFXI, but the way the Market Ward was implemented was poorly executed. The Market Board is basically the same idea but just streamlined into a list.

As for running out of storage space on your retainers, I think the idea is it's to force players to convert old gear into materia and then meld it to new gear rather than just horde them, but it hasn't really worked well unfortunately. In 1.0 you could hire multiple retainers incidentally (although it actually cost you extra on your subscription to do that) - because it wasn't popular it's likely why it was abolished.

You know you can compare the price of an item to previously sold items by pressing the buttons in the top right corner of the box while depositing an item in the market through the retainer, right?

Not enough room?... Can't check the price? Huh?!

First, I don't get how you can run out of space on both your Retainer (That's more than 300 slots) with the few classes you got leveled... Maybe you should throw stuff away or sell them?

And for the running back and forth from the Retainer to the market, like DarkOrion stated, you can check the price directly from your retainer when you're selling the item.

The only thing I would like from retainer, is a sort option..

I like that idea actually, I just hope, if they decide on that particular course of action, that it doesn't turn out to be a function put in place with good intentions that just glitches and goes bad.

I think the system is great compared to how it was in 1.0 (oh the hours I wasted searching for items/gear in the ward before YG came around). And if I remember correctly, you could only stack up to 12 items at the time too versus 99.

Just like Enkidoh said, the game sort of forces you to keep inventory 'moving.' It also helps keep the market and the gil moving.

Any drops you get off mobs or dungeons should be auction off, NPCed, or crafted/used. If you are going to be crafting in the future, its best to just hold onto the higher lvl HQ. I've sold off lots of mats that I know I would be needing in the future, but I'm still levels away from getting there.

If you ever need to recollect these items again, just go back out and grind (kill two birds with one stone and lvl up your other classes in the process).

We desperately need a sort feature (come on Square, you had three years to get this to us :\)

Issue I have with your first statement is that 1.0 was so crappy it makes the 2.0 version look good. But trust me it\\'s FAR from great. That\\'s like saying being punched in the teeth is an upgrade from being kicked in the teeth. Regardless you\\'re getting your teeth smashed. I always hate when people make something sound good simply because it\\'s predecessor was so shitty it makes it look good. :-/

I'm simply stating that they tried what they thought was 'exciting and new' and it failed.

I love how people complain about the market system and never actually offer any suggestions to improve it other than "we need more space"

Adding more space will not change the layout of the Market, it could possibly encourage hoarding.

Square tried something different, it failed horribly. So they went with what works and mimicked FFXI layout. I'm pretty sure the majority of the players are fine with the current layout. 50-100 people complaining on the boards does not compare to the 1000s playing contently.

I think the only way the market could be realistically improved on what it is now is if they added to the info section by highlighting how much an item can be bought for from the actual shop. The process of checking is annoying at best, especially with the way that the shops are set up. That's my only complaint though, really.

You can compare prices on what you're selling, but you can't compare prices on other possible items you might find relevant. For instance ingredients that go into an item (which can effect what you feel is a reasonable selling price) or the price for an item you're thinking about crafting but haven't made yet.
