Its not that he hate FFXI, they dont want to take the core things that people like FFXI for and use them all in FFXIV or people that still play FFXI for these things will leave.

Also, to the person saying Yoshi P is against all things XI, the future Shantotto event and minion would like to talk to you...when she comes around that is :P
Because damn, Yoshi really cares about the XI players and to reward them for their loyalty, they give them a FATE... (which most people hate).. with Shantotto.

I actually miss de-leveling, so so much. People cared about staying alive because of the fear of wiping. People actually learned from dying too, because of how brutal it was (well it wasn't that bad.. seriously.. It really wasn't that bad), but it teaches people how to play their class.I don't miss exp loss, but I don't like the fact there is no weakness if you return after death. Too many 'one DPS died to plumes everyone jump off the edge' caused by not caring about the wipe. There should be some additional reason to care other than starting over. With the way gil rains from the sky in this game gear damage doesn't actually matter.
Is someone going to tell me that FATEs are better at teaching people how to tank or heal than de-leveling? Because I'd love to hear that argument.
I was a PLD pre Level sync / Besieged. EXP loss sucked hard. heh.

1.x had Notorious Monsters that dropped green items on a 5 minute spawn. You could go 1/1 on drop or 1/15ish. There was some claim battles but nothing drama inducing like FFXI. What's sad is almost all those NMs from 1.x have now been turned into FATE mobs as well. Certain mobs like Uraeus and Dodore have been taken out of the game and their sought after skins for crafters in 1.x are now random drops from chests in dungeons. They still make the same gear but not really sought after like they were since they really killed any reason for crafters and their gear.
Personally I'm all for it. I'm even more for a 'hardcore' 1 life type thing. But I also realize neither of these will come in to a game who's philosophy is to cater to the majority of crowds. It's too much of a niche item now.Death Penalty...
I think a lot of us expected the Limit Break system to be separate and perhaps the option to combine for more powerful. I don't recall anyone too happy with it during the beta. In fact one of the bigger complaint threads was about the dragoon using a sword for Limit Break.Weapon Skill Chains and Magic Bursts...
I understand the feelings on this one. I think he wanted to save that look/style/ferocity for the roaming/captured primals that can be then used/unleashed during fights. Not in the game yet of course, but just my thoughts. I'm okay with the Egis mainly because I don't care for SMN, however I love SCH.I wish the EGi's looked as Epic as XI's did...

eh. if nobody came in there to say 'HELL NO' then the topic would be full of 'HELL YES', aka giving a one-sided view.
I personally am extremely glad that in the last 5+ years I haven't played a single MMO that had xp-loss. I never thought any game was less 'hard' than FFXI. in fact, FFXI was never a 'hard' game for me at all. frustrating at times, absolutely. I honestly don't get why people still have this mindset that something has to be incredibly frustrating to be 'worth something'.
in fact I'd argue in the opposite direction and claim xp loss makes people play way way way too carefully and less 'risky', so they never play their characters to their full potential. tanks never test how many mobs they can pull, healer in turn never figure out how 'bad' their group can be before they can no longer 'outheal derp', a dps will never know how much he can kite/pull without stressing the entire team...
and the talk about the 'hate' on FFXI.. you folks do realise that some of Yoshi-P's team is people who worked on XI, don't you?

I wouldn't mind a skill chain system at all, though. but on a personal level I'd much much much prefer something more similar to the fellowship skills in LotRo.
