Was it? That's a shame… I was so "OMG" when I saw it in-game for the first time! That was an "OMG" moment I won't forget, I'd have hated to be spoiled about it.

Content requiring a level of skill is a good thing, that's what makes games, games - Unless you'd rather XIV was an interactive movie?

Coil is for eight people. I do have friends, but I'm not part of those eight people.
As for your second statement, no, I'd rather FFXIV be a RPG. This "skill" bs has to be the worst thing that happened to MMORPGs. All it does is separate the players into the ones who can mimick a Youtube video, and the rest who tries but fails.

FF14 ARR is a gear grinder.

Do you need it?
You really don't have anything else to do in the game. It doesn't matter if you are crafting or pounding through dungeons, you are grinding content to get gear.

Uh, what other outcomes are there? You can either do it, or you can't. Pretty sure EVERYTHING in the entire world works that way. If you can't pass your drivers test then you don't get a license. If you can't pass you tests, you won't get a degree, if you fail your interview, you won't get the job.

That being said, when the level cap gets raised and they add the next arch of the story, that too will be completable by people without end-game gear. Yoshi has said that he intends for the "main story" to be completable by everyone. The story the continues through the raid is extra, and a reward for clearing challenging content.

If you're anything like me, I recommend to not grind for gear, or just stop playing as soon as you feel yourself not having fun. Then come back when the next update comes out.

I've learned over the years that as soon I as start to feel that gear grind, it's time to move on until the next update comes out. I'm about at that point right now. You have to ask yourself whether your goal is to get gear, or is gear a means to your goal. My goal is to beat a challenge and experience a good story. Gear just gets in the way of that.

Nah I am having loads of fun. But can someone link me up where Yoshi said these HM story quests are side quests? Because as long as when the next story content comes I am able to complete it without raid gear, I'd be very happy knowing that at least.
