All they would need to do is look back at 1.23 and transfer the "set" bonuses from that AF to the new AF. Like I said above as an example, my Bard AF in 1.23 has bonuses like increasing song duration and song potency. They recently changed it in WoW to allow you to use legendaries in transmogrification (make gear look like something else). This allows you to continue to use your legendary equipment even after you have replaced it.
It would be nice to see set bonuses or something on gear. WoW had set bonuses and trinkets which weren't just additional stats but would be things like "Your healing spells heal an additional 6% over 6 seconds" or "Your Aetherflow has a 30% chance to grant an additional charge."

Only reason I don't like your idea is that it will lead everyone to having/aspiring to the same exact weapon. I wish we had a higher variation of capable endgame weapons.

We're already there.
Everyone now wants their relic +1 weapon. Before that, they want their garuda weapon, and ifrit's before that.
I just figured the relics, which were owned by legendary masters of <job>, would actually enhance the job, further than just being a better weapon, like every weapon before it.
